As soon as we enter, we are greeted. So we sit ourselves down where we want and the interior appears to have changed a little bit. However, the place has a lovely and relaxing vintage atmosphere with dim lightings. We started off with drinks first. Mulled wine, Watermelon crush cocktail and Pimms Hurricane. Then we ordered couple of dishes including Popcorn Chicken, Spicy fried chicken burger and Korean steak tartare served with prawn crackers. Popcorn chicken was fried chicken and tasted as I have expected of it. The burger was surprisingly spicy and the bun was soft just as I like it. Korean kimchi tartare wasn’t spicy and tasted alot of mayonnaise sauce. Overall, the service was great, they came back the second time to ask if we wanted more drinks, and how our meals were. I would visit this bar again– it has great vibes, lots of comfortable couches and great drinks.

Visited here for lunch on a Monday and had to try the Reuben special which for $ 16 including a large small batch gage roads beer is a STEAL! Wifey tried the burger and we shared some hand cut wedges. The place was quiet which was a delight as I’m sure this place goes off at night being the groovy looking bar it is. Service was fantastic with the bar staff happy for feedback which you may think could of been that it was quiet but you could sense he actually really did care. All in all everything tasted delicious and will definitely be back for round 2.

Earlier this week, with a pleasant change in the weather, we travelled by train and bus into the heart of the Highgate/Mt Lawley strip and ended up for lunch at Five Bar. This is one the more laid back and friendly bars in the strip with a mix of tables and chairs, benches and stools, couches and coffee tables offering a host of seating choices — and a good range of wines, beer, cocktails and some pretty good food, as well. Setting up at one of the benches we perused the menu while sipping on a glass of Vinaceous Reverend V rosé — made from Pinot Noir this brightly coloured wine has a bouquet of cherries and raspberries, with a crisp, slightly savoury palate and zingy acidity. The menu is composed of a number of sandwich choices, along with small and larger share plates, and we decided on a couple of the aforesaid sandwiches, together with a couple of starters — salt and pepper squid and a skewer of salmon. Salt and pepper squid — a little pile of gently fried squid — firm to the bite but still tender and moist — sprinkled with slices of chilli and spring onion was accompanied by a bowl of creamy, spicy tomato dipping sauce — for me a little more chilli heat in the sauce would have lifted the dish — but it was a very good start. The yakitori style salmon skewer, cubes of juicy and succulent salmon, grilled with a salty-sweet sauce — flavours of soy, mirin and sugar dominant — came with pickled ginger and pickled daikon — crunchy, salty and vinegary. Brilliant — we only ordered the one skewer which was a mistake which will be corrected next time we go by. A variation of the classic New York sandwich, the Reuben, for Lady FWO, put together pastrami, cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing between fresh rye — the meat tender and plentiful, the dressing slightly piquant, and the sauerkraut pleasantly crunchy and sour. Channelling my Deep Southern origins(in my case the south of WA rather than the US) my fried prawn po’boy hit the spot. A crusty bread roll encasing crisply fried prawns, juicy fresh tomato and very mildly spiced marinade sauce. Both sandwiches hit the right markers and were fresh and enjoyable. After another glass of the Reverend, we finished off with a glass each of Howard Park Miamup Cabernet Sauvignon — fragrantly perfumed aromas of blackcurrants and plums, with a spicy, minty note lead on to a smooth, medium bodied palate of plums, mulberries and cocoa — excellent current drinking but should age well over the next five years or so. So fed and watered we wandered off and about back to the city and then home. Five Bar is rightly popular, with friendly and welcoming waiters, excellent drinks, very good food, and laid back vibrant buzz. And with Jerry Fraser and his oysters on hand on Sundays it is a great spot to visit. Recommended indeed.

Ciders and catch ups: this is what Five Bar is for. While I desperately miss the pool table, I love the pallet seats so much more(so much in fact that I am going to get some built for my house!) It just gives it such an indoor/outdoor feel which is great. There’s nothing of the menu that I wouldn’t order, actually, but I do love things that I can snack on and their ability to work nice vegetarian food into the menu is great. My main reason for loving Five though is their booze list. Their wines are wonderful and they are now the only bar on Beaufort Street to still sell Stowford Press cider. Their fridges are stocked full with different beers and I love their tap takeovers; they are totally about supporting their industry and providing the best products to their customers. The team never fails to make you welcome. From table service to a busy bar, they focus on you, and make you feel special. I’ll be heading in to try and new additions to the menu soon, and I cannot wait!

Great place to come and hang out with friends or your beloved best pal :) The set up was comfy and there was so much space, i actually think they could do with a couple extra high-bars and stools. The food was great — we ordered tapas-style dishes; roasted beets, the sweet potato chips and something else which i cant remember(ha — but it was good). Friendly staff and great atmosphere.

Decided to spend our Australia Day with the good folks from Eat the Street and the five bar… The day was filled with crafty beer and a range of food, accompanied by triple j’s hottest 100. The bar has a great atmosphere, chilled out and laid back. Service was without fault!!! And their popcorn chicken is to die for!!! seriously, you have to try it! I did find though, even with the very large windows open, it was very hot inside and the leather seats didn’t always help with that. Some fans were on and brought a breeze every now and then, but the humidity outside overpowered the fans and it was a bit muggy…

Drinks at Five is something that I don’t do nearly enough! Five Bar is a Beaufort Street staple. Personally, I like to go there when it’s not too busy, when I can easily grab a spot on one of the comfy sofas. I was meeting a fellow foodie there, Grace and I REALLY fancied a cider. Knowing that Five has a great range, I let the friendly barman pick it and it was a cracker! Apart from totally loving the stripy label, the Australian Endless Pear cider was light and not too sweet. I’d have it again for sure. For lunch I enjoyed the more-ish mushrooms on toast. The tasty dish is enough on it’s own or easy to share. Five’s menu can be shared. Five Bar is a great spot for drinks and has good food. I really like the chilled out, unpretentious vibe. And a top tip — Jerry Fraser the KING of oysters is at Five bar a couple of nights a week! I love Jerry to bits and he is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to these yummy little morsels. He also spends some time shucking at Five Bar’s cool sister venue Lot 20 in Northbridge.

The service here is always warm, friendly and relaxed. Great range of beers and the cocktails aren’t crazy expensive. Really enjoyable place to sit for a few hours with a meat board and a glass of wine. Highly recommend.

Sunday breakfast was great. we were told about the fantastic New Orleans theme night held on Thursday nights, so I booked a table 2 weeks in advance. 6 of my friends headed there in anticipation of a great night for my birthday recently and they did not have a table under my name, They moved someone off their table to accommodate our numbers. Embarrassing! We were told about the jazz music, people dressing up in theme and the great food like Gumbo and special drinks for New Orleans. The piped, not live music was too loud and we struggled to hear each other across the table. the only people dressed up were 2 wait staff, so I am glad I ditched my costume in the car. The food came in Tapas style, although not mentioned so we were all surprised at the size of it and had to order extras. We had a couple of serves of Oysters from the FAMOUS oyster shucker, Expensive and small and can only be fresh or grilled. Then the clincher. We paid our bill of over $ 300. We had added up our total individually and were not expecting to pay over $ 100 each except one couple. Then we were told one of the oysters $ 30 was not paid, so that was paid. After we had left, standing on the side walk saying goodbyes, we were followed out of the Bar by the Oyster shucker, saying we had not paid for 1 ½ dozen oysters. Apparently its not on the bill, you need to pay him separately… this was not explained to any of us. So we checked to bill as to why it was so high and one person had been charged $ 25.00 for each(3) double scotch and coke. $ 75 for 3 drinks. So my friends, be careful of your oysters been separate on the bill. Don’t expect a really New Orleans theme. the food disappointing, it was cold because the sky lights were open above us as that day had been 35 degrees. Then to be chased down because of bill discrepancy they did not address when giving us the bill… all left a bad experience, I would not recommend to anyone.

Five stars for Five Bar(hopefully no one has done that already). The staff there were so friendly to chat to and the food was amazing. Sliders were the best I’ve had for a long time, and the asparagus and halloumi appetisers were so delicious. I really loved the open front which was perfect that night, as it wasn’t too hot or too cold, but perfect. I loved the décor throughout, especially down the back, the benches and cushions made me just want to jump in(but I didn’t), and it all just gave off a really great, social vibe. I felt the music was a touch on the loud side, but I was sitting directly underneath a speaker as I later found out, so it might have just been me. Anyway, five stars because I loved it, and I will for sure be back

i liked it here, me and a friend went to five bar on a Thursday night and it was ‘new Orleans night’ the staff were dressed up like they worked in a small little jazz bar in New Orleans and it was great to see! the bar tender was great, and gave us a whole list of things he could make, or told us to tell him what we wanted and he would whip it up. And boy he did! we ordered a mojioto and a strawberry daq and he whipped them up perfectly! was a great night out

I have to preface this by saying we went on a bar takeover day which may change people’s perspective. However the first thing that comes to mind when reliving the five bar experience is the chilled out atmosphere, rhythmic ambient music and mid level chatter make this place enticing(we went on a Wednesday). Thanks to eagle bay we were offered the paddle of their six beers for $ 20(obvious choice). The bartender was informative, which is not out of the norm for five bar, and the beers tasted delicious, apart from the midstrength(Carlton mid anyone?). Disregarding the beers which was not a five bar staple on this occasion the food is worth a shot as well. I tried the popcorn parfait and saw nirvana which may be attributed to the consumption of the aforementioned paddle but nevertheless everyone else agreed. The beer range is spectacular and caters to all tastes, so if you like beer or think you might, go here and ask the bartenders to help you out. They will point you in the right direction.

Really like Five Bar. We stopped in for a drink and a little nibble to get our palate going before deciding where to go for lunch. We LOVE cheese so we ordered the blue cow double brie with a chutney and the asparagus with haloumi and macadamia nuts. It’s really nice and relaxed in there and i like how there’s plenty of different seating options available where you bring a larger group of people or just go on a 2 person date.

Five Bar is my ideal kind of place to chill out on a Sat or Sunday afternoon. I’ve also been there for small group functions and although they usually have a walk in policy only, they do their best to accommodate group bookings. I was really happy with the area we were given on the weekend, near the front entrance where we can enjoy the sun streaming through while relaxing on the couches, which comfortably seated about 20 of us. I ordered some platters but the food was served differently to how we’ve previously had it, which was a shame as the individual cups of sweet potato chips I’ve had before were perfect for guests to grab a cup each, but now they’re served on a tray so it’s a bit of a Jenga game to keep them all on the tray and a little tricky to pass around the group. The prawn toast is now also served in thick chunks, which makes it a little awkward to eat and the prawn: toast ratio was inconsistent. Overall I was happy with my function booking, and given I only had to pay $ 100 deposit for the food to secure my reservation I would happily book it again for a casual event when I don’t need to be strict with numbers.

Wow I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for Five Bar yet, this is one of my favourite places in Perth! Instead of writing one of my long winded reviews, how about I just give you 5 reasons that Five Bar is one of my top 5 favourites in Perth. 1 — The staff rock, they know what they are talking about, they love what they do, and they love everyone who comes in the door(or at least their service makes it feel that way) 2 — Craft Beer — Fuck yea, me likely! 3 — Mulled wine — this is the best thing ever, if you haven’t tried it yet find $ 6 and go to Five Bar now! 4 — The ever changing seasonal menu with a few fav mainstays — such as the well loved pork belly which is enough to make Tuesdays your new favourite day and last but not least 5 — The environment is just so chill, the couches and artwork sort of make me feel like I’m at a friends house not a bar which is very very nice. It also doesn’t hurt that Five is only a 10 minute bus ride from my house so it is easier than going to a friends house! So there it is 5 reasons Five is in my top 5… wow thats a lot of 5s

Second visit and the staff and food certainly put on an impressive show! Coming as a group of eight all for the beef Wellington, the fact that everyone finished is a sign of just how well the kitchen executed this Monday night special meal. Next the waiter was amazingly friendly, talkative and explained the food and drinks to everyone — a lot of fun; this is always a favourite of mine! Finally the atmosphere; they have pulled off the ale house masterfully, I really enjoyed the décor, ambient noise levels still allowed for conversation and there was a variety of seating options. My two visits suggest it will not be long before my third; great place and certainly recommended.
