Man this place is expensive. It has an extremely big rep out there and loads of my friends shop here, but Man is it expensive. Billie and rose stock your ultra cool clothes, you know the ones, they are that cool that they are almost NAFF. If it was worn by the wrong person, they could look like a geek who has rummaged through the big yellow bins at the front of a Sammy store. You will love this place, if you need to keep in the latest fashions, it is way too cool for the likes of me. The parking is just terrible here, you are better off parking at the back off Fresh Provisions and walking over.

Much like the women’s range, the menswear here is stately and hip, without being over the top. It’s very much on trend and I’d guess a good number of the sharply-dressed kids who frequent Mt Lawley haunts are doing their shopping here. For me personally, I think some of the threads are a little too serious, you don’t find many playful pieces but that’s just a matter of taste really. The quality and design of many of the clothes are first rate. The denims here are particular fine.

All That Remains, Alice McCall, Bec & Bridge, Cheap Monday, Friend of Mine, House of Wilde, Lonely Hearts, Maurie & Eve, The Cassette Society — they are the best of the best: clothing, shoes, bags and other accessories. Warning: do not enter after being paid unless you are prepared to spend it all! I speak from experience. Billie & Rose has a great range of clothing, all a bit pricey but they often have really good sales where you can grab a bargain. When new collections come in, it is always best to pre order or head there right away because stock tends to run out fast! And I do suggest the Mt Lawely store, as it definitely has more variety than King Street.

Billie & Rose stock all the labels that I love, love, love. There’s an abundance of prints, colours and funky accessories. They haven’t downsized their offerings in light of the hard economic times either, and you’re often spoilt for choice here. The store is only a short walk from my home, and yet It’s not very often I find myself heading to Billie & Rose for a fashion pick-me up… See, It’s the way the store is run that keeps me away and drives me to shop online. With the exception of one or two sales assistants, the service here is as artificial as the splices of green in their hair. I once witnessed a staff member complement a customer on their skirt and then brand it «the ugliest f*ing skirt», when the change room curtain was closed. Nice. Its clear they work on commission, because they really know how to shove a sales pitch down your throat. What’s more are the change rooms — no mirrors!(pet hate). This way you’re forced to come out and use the communal mirrir. This suits the sales assistant greatly, who can ‘complement’ you on how well that shade of burgundy suits your skin tone.

When I moved from Sydney to Perth one of my main predicaments was where on earth to shop. Surprisingly enough, Perth ladies are quite a fashionable bunch with their flirty and feminine style. ‘What was their secret? Are they dressed by a choir of singing blue birds come sunrise?’ I’d wonder. Billie and Rose seems to be a Perth lady’s first point of call. The chicks here go nuts for Billie and Rose, and after entering the store there’s no guesses as to why. Billie and Rose is the kind of boutique you’d find in Sydney’s Bondi or Paddington. Very chic, very stylish and very cutting edge. With body suits by Cheap Monday, swimwear and skin tight dresses by We Are Handsome, jewellery by Elke, shoes and bags by Maurie and Eve, leather wear by My Pet Squared and t-shirts by the Cassette Society, Billie and Rose is a one stop shop for the dapper male and his equally charming lady friend. The store in Mt Lawley is a lot bigger than some of their other branches, but similarly to Fremantle and Queen Street, they seem to employ a certain type of person. These are the kind people you want to take fashion advice from. I also like that they don’t get all uppity when you try but don’t buy. They also have massive sales sometimes too with up to 90% off.
