Probably one of the most entertaining nights I’ve had in Perth so far was spent at the hidden away Jazz Cellar! A friend was having his birthday at the Jazz Cellar and gave us very few instructions. bring cheese, wine & enter through the red telephone box. Well that’s all we needed because the talented Jazz crew took care of the rest! The venue has a quirky entrance through an old red telephone box and is essentially like the name suggests in a cellar! it only holds a capacity of 100 people so you need to book your tickets in advance(I’ve been told the new online booking site is much easier than having to line up several hours before for tickets!) The décor is vintage and funky with odd tables and chairs and an array of old signage and posters from the 50s, they alone are enough to keep you entertained that is until the Jazz crew get on stage. These guys are absolutely adorable, a touch cheeky and oh so talented. They played for hours and were open to requests as long as we didn’t suggest smoke on the water haha They were absolute characters and got the crowd up and dancing away! Entrance is $ 20 online and entitles you to entrance to the cellar. The cellar is BYO food and drink and they do have a pizza bar close by that will deliver straight to your table, now that’s service! I can’t wait to return to the Jazz Cellar. they’ve just scored themselves yet another fan!

Finally after years of wanting to visit we made it down last Friday night. Our very lovely and patient friend waited in line from 3pm for tickets and we were lucky enough to get ourselves a table! Tickets sell out every week and it is common for people to come very early and buy 20 or so for a large group. We have tried previously arriving at 4pm but were too late. Tickets are $ 25 for a whole night of live Jazz music. The venue is BYO food & drink so you can bring down an eski & some snacks and you will be set for the night. You enter through a phone booth behind Vinnies and once down in the basement the atmosphere is awesome. The Jazz musicians are really great at what they do and put on a fantastic show. I would highly recommend if you have the time. Definitely one of Perth’s best and more unique nights out.

One of the best venues in Perth. Un-pretentious and with kind staff. Good jazz which makes one feel nostalgic for a bygone era. It’s byo but make sure you arrive at 5pm before it opens to guarantee yourself a ticket. Also enter through the phone box behind the Good Sammy’s.

What a great place! So lively and fun! I went here in October and had a fantastic time. It’s BYO drink and food. If you want to get a seat, make sure you arrive at 5:30/6pm when the doors open!

There is nothing, thats right, nothing quite like jazz music. It has a way of seeping happiness into every single part of my being. It puts a smile of my face and a sway to my walk. I love this place in particular, it is really usual and one of those magical little gems that is almost too ‘cool’ for Perth. It reminds me of something tucked away in London or Melbourne. Its just great. This place is one of the greatest venues in Perth.

I am so utterly beguiled by this place. The red phone-box entrance, the downstairs cellar setting, the energetic jazz band, the group of elderly men who get the ladies up to dance, there are just so many kinds of wonderful here. It’s table seating plus BYO alcohol and food, with a 20 buck cover charge. My friends and I tend to bring a plate, but there are plenty of takeaway joints around that you can make use of if you’re coming straight from work on a Friday night. That’s the thing about this place: you have to get here early(I’m talking 5/5:30pm for doors open a 6pm) otherwise you’re just going to leave shoulders down and bottom lip heavy. Also note, it’s only open on Friday nights. The Jazz Cellar is decorated with old enamel advertising signs, and some of the tables are made from cast iron sewing machine bases. Lots of the furniture has been sourced from antique shops, adding to the old-school feel of the place. The whole experience sparkles.

Upon entering through the phone booth you will be overcome with a sense of love and adoration for the charming DIY mecca that is the Jazz Cellar. When the shop owner realised there was an issue with the foundation underneath the shop he was forced to build a cellar that was then used for him and his jazz friends to jam. Eventually they fitted out the room with predominantly recycled and found objects to create the now infamous Jazz Cellar. Every Friday they open the doors to the public on a first in best-dressed basis for those lucky ones who will be entertained by a very competent and dynamic jazz band. This is one of the great nights out in Perth. It is great to see something of this nature be initially developed by the organisers and enjoyed by so many locals of all ages. Entry is $ 15 on the door and the venue is BYO food and alcohol.
