I popped into Mulberries after doing a bit of shopping in Morley. Progress St where the café is situated has long been a bit of a sad area, without much money being invested in improving the surrounds. Apparently the council is doing something about that and has installed some planter boxes and cleaned the street up, but it could still do with some TLC. Anyhoo — lunch at Mulberries. Although clean, Mulberries is in a time and décor warp, and the display cabinet inside wasn’t remotely tempting. Although there were some potentially interesting options like zucchini slice, veggie frittata and bacon and egg pie, nothing looked fresh. I asked about the frittata and was told that it was 2 days old. Nobody wants to eat stale food, so I ordered a chicken, avo and salad sandwich. To be honest, I wasn’t that optimistic and didn’t expect much. I took a seat outside and noticed that there were several groups of people — local workers on their lunch break — dining in. My sandwich was actually super fresh and really good, and my long mac wasn’t bad either. Let’s say I was pleasantly surprised. The café does an all day breakfast so if I was in the area again I could be tempted to return. The service was very friendly and I guess if the café is being patronised by locals when there are many options a short walk away at Westfield Galleria, then it must have something going for it.

Although there was nothing wrong with this place as a café, it’s not what the website shows. I met a friend for breakfast and we were expecting a stylish little café. Café Mulberries is more your friendly local pitstop café. Nice staff and a good no frills breakfast.

Came here for lunch with a girlfriend and the weather was so nice we decided to sit outside which was lovely… they have more outdoor seats then inside seats. Their lunch menu consists of burgers, wraps and sandwiches, so perfect if you want something light. My friend’s chicken burger was delish, full of fresh salad and a tomato chutney with a sweet chilli mayo that gave it nice flavour. I was craving a breakfast so had scrambled eggs and bacon on toast… I have to say a little disappointed. Personally I find it a bit off putting when the waitress puts your plate down in front of you and your food has just been slopped on the plate with no care at all. My scrambled eggs weren’t fluffy and kind of had a play-doh look to them and with the amount of egg on my plate one slice of toast just wasn’t enough! The saving grace of this meal was the bacon, cooked just a little crispy the way I like and there was plenty of it. Oh and my blueberry and banana smoothie which was huge! Their breakfast menu looks great with a wide range of options, but after how my eggs came out I’m a little hesitant to try it. A nice little café for sure and I’m definitely up for coming again and trying something else on their menu.

There is nothing better than sitting down to a mugachino whilst your gourmet sand which is being made. You choose your fillings so for around $ 8.00 you get three meats, cheese, antipasto, salad and whatever sauces you fancy. I always end up going for the salami, ham and pastrami, with artichoke and cheese. It is just the right size to keep you going all day. I notice I kinda order this around 11.00am, its those days when I ha vent had a breakfast(naughty I know) so you get hungry early, but you need something that will sustain you for the day. The service here is quick and its actually a good place to sit down and eat. The muffins looks fantastic, it takes allot off will power not to fall for the temptations of those puppies.

Holy Moley! ‘Top heavy’ is given a whole new meaning at Café Mulberries. Muffin tops go to the extreme with ample toppings in decadent disproportion. I came across this place on Facebook strangely, and after some oogling of their food photos from my work desk, came some serious cravings for a muffin, and so the expedition was made to Morley. Don’t think you’ll just a grab a Mulberries’ muffin to ‘tie you over’ til lunch… I tried the triple choc-peanut crunch version, which was a moist chocolate cake topped with hefty block of homemade chocolate peanut brittle. Completely indulgent and totally massive; these babies are a meal in themselves. Some other flavour combinations to get you salivating are; Apricot compote and Scorched Almond, Raspberry, White chocolate and Coconut, Date and Walnut topped with caramel and Banana Colada. The rest of the menu is nothing brilliant, with your usual bacon and eggs deal for breakfast and sandwich, quiches and frittatas for lunch .The delightful muffins really steal the limelight. If you work in the area, I’d recommend charging down to Café Mulberries to see what muffins are going — they are the ultimate 3 o’clock slump remedy!
