The comedy store makes you question whether you walked down that alley way and got transported to America. A table service providing, laughter producing comedy bar that puts on some wonderfully funny comedy nights. The store is up two flights of stairs near the car park at the entertainment complex. The décor is very American comedy club. The drinks are reasonably priced($ 8 a beer) and the service friendly. The shows at the store are also reasonably priced and they manage to get a great range of comedians both for solo shows but also some great line up! Well worth checking out if you are a comedy lover in Sydney!

Having wanted to check out The Comedy Store for years, I finally got my chance to go when Internationally acclaimed Australian stand-up Jim Jeffries came to town. As with venue, you come to expect certain things, namely pricey drinks($ 7.50 for a coopers). That being said, the space is intimate but fits in roughly 350 people. There is table service and the ticket prices are very reasonable. If there is a comedian coming to Sydney, you could do a lot worse than see them at The Comedy Store

Once you hike up the stairs, the comedy store is a fantastic venue! There is a bar at the front but don’t stress if the queues are big, because there is table service throughout the show. Yep, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the laughs while someone brings you alcohol. And everything is always funnier after a few drinks. I saw Judith Lucy here, and she was as usual, hilarious. I don’t think there are any bad seats in the house, just make sure your chair is positioned so you can see around the person in front of you. Also, some soft lights remain on throughout the show, so if this bothers you make sure you get a seat which isn’t in the spotlight. I’ve been to gigs where you sit in a theatre, and ones where there are no tables to stick your drink down on. The comedy store is by far the best as it is kind of intimate with the comedian, while being casual at the same time. There are restaurants around the Entertainment Quarter for dinner, and there is parking on site. The first 2 hours are free.

The comedy store comically is not a store but a venue where you can watch stand-up comedy. Although it is primarily Australian humour, from time to time they do have international comedians up on stage. No two nights are ever the same! It is a great place to hang out with friends and share a laugh. The fact that it’s not a huge auditorium, but a cosy place, adds to the charm. What I like best about live comedy is the way they interact with the front row audiences. It is spontaneous and most often hilarious! I prefer to grab a seat at the back and laugh out loud, to avoid being in the spotlight or in direct target of the comedian. And I definitely prefer going for shows where there are multiple comedians as not everyone has the same sense of humour or style.

I could not think of a better way for you to spend your money than to pay someone to make you laugh… i mean, seriously… how awesome is that… someone stands in front of you and tries their hardest to make you giggle so hard that you need to pee your pants… Everytime I’ve seen comedy at this fine establishment I’ve had a good night… they have such wonderful variety and its always excellent to get a different comedic edge depending who is doing stand up… The prices for tickets are always reasonable… and it’s a fun place for a date or a group of friends… The space is quite intimate(ie small) which I like, so you feel like you’re getting a personal experience with the comedian/s… If you’re not letting loose because of the comedy you can always grab a drink at the bar to help you relax… it’s simply a fabulous way to spend a night… and worthy of many many visits.

For 30 years, the Comedy Store has been Sydney’s premier comedy venue, playing host to some of the world’s greatest comics. Although many of the big names in comedy are heading to the larger venues such as the State Theatre and the Opera House, the Comedy Store offers a much more intimate setting to watch these brave souls! There is a small bar next to the main room, so you can grab a drink or two before the performance starts, and during the show, waiters come round to your seats to take your order which is an added bonus, and takes away the possibility of being singled out by an eagle-eyed comic who needs a target. Shows take place Tuesday to Saturday, so check out the website for more details on who’s performing. Cross-referencing with YouTube can also be a useful way of planning who you go and see!
