Good atmosphere. Best venue to go before a show or game around the area. Food is decent but a noticeably weak on the vegetarian options. Drink selection is robust, especially nice to see Kilkenny and Guinness on tap. Forewarned however if you’re going to go to a show expect everyone else to have the same idea. Worth booking ahead and getting dinner sorted early.

Going to see comedy or a gig or Cirque De Soliel and wanna get bombed beforehand? This is your best option in EQ. Big — sprawling, in fact, with a giant beer garden and two massive levels — PJ Gallaghers is, there’s no getting around it, a giant chain pub, complete with a token smattering of loosely Irish artifacts like odd paddles and curling sticks and a few etchings and such. But, just like the Irish, this pub doesn’t pretend to be anything it’s not. In fact, a barman admitted as much: «Mate, we’re an events pub. If stuff’s on we’re bloody pumping. If it’s not, we’re quiet as. ‘Nother New, mate?» Sure. And gimme a shot ‘a tequila, too. I’m seeing Disclosure in 30 minutes and I’m nowhere near as drunk as I oughta be.
