Dumpling houses are on the rise in Sydney. New places offering hand made dumplings and noodles are popping up everywhere. One of them is this Dainty Dumpling House, first opened in Rhodes, now also exist on the food court of the newly renovated side of Miranda Shopping Centre, Westfield. Keen to give this place a try, I ventured in, knowing that they have Din Tai Fung and Lok Lok Dumpling on the same premise to compete with. Even though the Fried Rice selections and the Pork and Prawn Wonton in Tangy Chilli Sauce looked enticing, I opted for Shanghai Spicy Noodles with Pork and Prawn Wontons. I thought this was a safe choice and I was looking forward to eating it. Unfortunately it tasted bland. There was hardly any sauce in it. It wasn’t spicy at all, and I was left feeling disappointed. The only good thing about this experience was the helpful staff, I love the fact that she asked if I wanted chopsticks or cutlery, unlike most Asian eatery that would assume I eat with chopsticks probably because I look Asian, but the truth is I like my cutleries better than chopsticks!

This place is located at the bottom of the newly renovated part of Miranda Fair. All I can say is AVOID. I will never go back to this place. This place has set one of the lowest standards for service I have seen in a long time. First, it’s extremely over priced. We paid $ 34 for 3 dishes which amounted to 9 dumplings and some barbequed ribs which were tiny, full of fat and gristle. The ribs were inedible. The dumplings were tasteless. Issues: #1 What really angered me about this place is how the boy who was doing our order was dishonest. First, when we asked him what was good he pointed to a whole bunch of items. We then selected 3 items off the menu. We asked him to confirm what the items were as he was leaving the table, and he had down about 6 items!!! He ‘thought’ we were ordering all the items that he recommended. In no WAY did we indicate this. #2 The next problem is I wanted the vegetable dumpling dishes, but he kept saying onabout 3 items I picked from the menu«we dont have this today». «Are you serious???» I blatantly asked him. Their menu is deceiving, they don’t offer many of the items on the dumpling menu. I’ve never seen a restaurant to knock back on so many items on their list — we were ordering at 12pm on a saturday, peak hour time at lunch I imagine. Come on!!! #3 The green teas we asked for were $ 3 each, and they were in tiny glasses. Since when is tea charged for, and so expensive? The least they could have done is offered a whole pot of green tea for us if they are going to charge such exorbitant prices. #4 I couldn’t believe it, but when we went to pay, they tried to tack on to our order something like an $ 18 salt and pepper squid dish which we NEVER even asked about, or received at our table. This place is run by hopeless staff. They are either purposely deceptive, or their staff can’t speak or understand english. If you do make the mistake of ordering from this place, make sure you check your order at the end, that they haven’t tried to push extra items on your bill. You’re much better off for value for money, and quality of food, by going to yum cha in Hurstville.
