A quiet, unassuming and affordable Japanese restaurant ideal for locals. Despite this simplicity or perhaps because of it, I have always liked Tomoshibi. Add to that a happy hour every night and the ability to BYO and you’re onto a winner. Service is prompt, polite and comes with a smile. The dishes were brought out in perfectly timed succession. We enjoyed a perfectly hot, salty miso soup followed by some cutely presented kara’age. The sushi sashimi platter was so fresh and really tasty. The cuts of sashimi were good but definitely more rustic than finessed and some of the sushi rice did not hold it’s shape when faced with some soy sauce dipping action. Dessert had the usual Japanese offerings of ice cream including green tea and sake varieties. However, I opted for the sweet potato croquette which was pretty good but as is often the case with Japanese desserts overpriced for what it is. Tomoshibi is a friendly, reliable option for families and couples keen for a quiet get together with some honest Japanese food.
