If your children have four legs and fur, you are going to go nuts for this place. If you’re the kind of owner that takes their pet nutrition seriously and looking for food and treats without the rubbish — or you simply want to spoil them with something fun, you’ll have a field day here. I don’t currently own a dog… but as a dog nut, I thought this stall was awesome and an equally good stop in for dog ‘Aunts’ who are looking for quality stocking stuffers for dog-loving family and friends.

The Pet Grocer is for the type of person who tends to avoid processed foods for yourself or family, and you prefer healthy and organic meals using sustainable produce? You probably shop at markets and cook from scratch? Or perhaps you just like to spoil your loved ones? This newly renovated South Melbourne Market stall offers that same alternative for the animals at your place, furry or feathered. This place is ALL about healthy pet food. You don’t buy pets here. You come here to get their groceries. From fresh diced or minced roo, beef and other fresh meat, meatloaf, bones, rawhide and anchovies, grain, kibble and pellets, they’ve got it covered. There are even some more unusual treats like dried green lip mussels. Cat litter and organic shampoos are here too, again with a sustainable focus. But the ‘piece de resistance’ are the organic gourmet pet tarts, cakes and pet friendly chocolates boxed in packaging that makes even you want to eat it. Perfect presents for the next puppy birthday party play date at Gasworks Park you’re going to. Regulars voted it best General Merchandise Stall at the 2013 Melbourne Market Awards. So they handed out people friendly cakes and held a raffle for customers. See, they like peeps as well as pets. Now that’s saying something!
