Hungry and cold I thought a big bowl of laksa would bring the rosyness back into my cheeks. So naturally I went to the place closest to me with a solid 4.5 star rating on Unilocal.Clearly me and previous reviewers are looking for different things because I did not like it at all. It’s in a shopping centre so it’s loud and people walk past in a rush so it is definitely not relaxing. You pick your own ingredients to have floating around in the soup and i wouldn’t rate any of them. I left half of them and the chicken dumplings were terrible hard buns with pink chicken mush inside. Personally I stay away from pink chicken. Nope I won’t be coming here again.

Zomg! This place is in the middle of the target centre surrounded by students, however don’t be swayed. This place does awesome work lunches. Choose from pork and duck dishes. It’s like Chinese charcoal chicken!

What an amazing place. I come here for there legendary soup at least twice a week. There broth is consistently tasty and for around $ 10 you get a really substantial feed. One of my favourite Chinese soups.(Number 8 is my favourite)

Laksa and Yong Tau Foo. Or Yong Tau Foo in your Laksa if you please. In my humble opinion, this is the best laksa you can find in Melbourne. Let me leave you with a few descriptive words: Cheap, Good, Tasty, Delicious, Cheap, Flavorful, Filling, Cheap, Extraordinary, Cheap. That is all.

I’ve been struck by the winter blues and this has inspired my review on The Grand BBQ — my favourite Laksa stall in the CBD! ‘Yong Tau Foo’ Laksa is on offer here and for those needing a quick explanation, Yong Tau Foo literally means stuffed beancurd. Stuffed with what I hear you asking!!! Meat paste of fish and pork… but if beancurd just doesn’t appeal to you… then all varieties of vegetables and fritters are now also being stuffed, leaving us with many delightful choices! My order always consists of: — a mixture of Hokkien & Vermicelli Noodles — Laksa soup — Yong Tau Foo selection of mushroom… fried beancurd… eggplant…fish cake… prawn dumpling and chinese donut. Try it… you’ll be hooked and find yourself Laksa-ing once a week… even during summer!

The Grand BBQ has got to be the unlikeliest contender ever for a four star review. Domiciled within the hugely unglamorous confines of the aesthetically challenged Target Centre in the CBD, The Grand BBQ is a cheap and cheerful Chinese restaurant selling a huge menu of traditional Chinese noodle, rice and soup based dishes to an invariably heaving crowd. Service wise I wouldn’t say that The Grand BBQ excels exactly but then for dining in a casual, canteen style environment it’s definitely sufficient. The food is fresh — both ingredient and preparation wise — and really is very tasty. Prices are cheap, portions plentiful and I’ve yet to be let down by one of The Grand BBQ’s meals.
