Melbourne’s a great town for Asian food restaurants and markets. I find these little«pocket» takeaway sushi joints all over the city, where you can pick up a roll or two for less than A$ 5! I’ve only been to one other(in the CBD), and this one in Prahran is my second. Sushi Sushi’s display is pretty much the same as the other ones I’ve seen: A variety of fresh-looking sushi rolls and bento takeaways(or eat-in, if want). Like the other one I’ve been to, this little restaurant is very clean and, actually, better in that they’ve got a couple of outdoor tables and chairs, as well as on the inside.(And, too, this location has a more neighborhood feel, with people shopping at the Prahran Market next door, and other al fresco cafes and shops dotting Commercial Street.) Today, I ordered a salt-n-pepper, fried squid roll(A$ 2.70), and an Inari with seaweed(A$ 2). A$ 4.70 total!(The rolls average 4 slices of sushi.) There’s a whole variety of sushi rolls, some of fried chicken, some with salmon, some with veggies, California roll(natch), and a bunch of others. My fried squid roll was very tasty and filling; the seaweed Inari was, too, mighty tasty. Simply put, you can’t beat a fine lunch for less than A$ 5!!! It was so good that I bought me a couple of takeaway bentos — one with two rolls(a fried squid roll, and a fried chicken roll(both sliced; 10 pieces); and a mixed bento of a veggie roll and four plain Inaris(A$ 8.50 and A$ 7.50, respectively) — for my dinner later on.(Both were excellent!) Last, but not least, the service was welcoming and friendly!(For me, that says a lot these days; esp. in a city where waitpersons make A$ 25/hour, and can be lackadaisical since tipping is not the norm. Not like back in the States.) The bottom line is that I will be coming back to Sushi Sushi to satisfy my takeaway sushi craves!
