One of the best sushi diners in the city. They serve super fresh and super cheap sushi. Expect a big line out the door during weekday lunch time.

Three sushi rolls and a miso soup for $ 6.80! I’m there. Walking past here a few months ago with a need for sushi, I saw this deal and in I rolled. I was really surprised how many choices they have here. All your favourites sushi rolls are here with a lot of variations to choose from. They also have a massive range of bento box, curry, rice and noodle dishes on offer too, which I will definitely be back to try sometime soon. Sushi monger is small and can get busy, especially at lunch time on weekdays when the city work crowd descends. Seating can become a rare commodity and you may have to queue, but it’s a testament to the food on offer here. Good food, nice staff, top prices. You should definitely check this place out when you’ve got Japanese food in mind.

Overall great value for money. Everything is quite organised and they have an easy way to order. We took the B4(teriyaki chicken with rice, with salade, a tempura and a spring roll) and the B2(normal teriyaki chicken), 2 misu soups and 1 spicy salmon sushi roll. All for that for $ 20. Everything was pretty good but the tempura was too greasy for my liking. Restaurant is in a typical Melbourne alleyway, which I love! They have tables inside and outside. Cash only.

Came here for lunch, but after 2pm as I was wanting to avoid the peak lunch time crowds. I feel this was a wise move as the place is pretty small — I wouldn’t recommend attempting to lunch here in a large group. However, space issues aside, they were extremely well priced — I chose to get two rolls and miso soup and this will only set you back a fiver! I definitely recommend trying the spicy salmon roll. The sushi was pretty darn good and tasted super fresh. They will cut the rolls for you when dining in. This was my first visit to Sushi Monger, but it most definitely won’t be the last!

I got 3 rolls at lunch: salmon avocado, spicy salmon, tempura shimp. There was a good fish to rice ratio and it tasted fresh. It’s an amazing value at $ 6.80 for 3 rolls plus a miso soup! The guy who took my order wasn’t the friendliest, though.

Pretty good Japanese joint in Melbourne. We went here on our trip to Australia and it was about a week and we were craving Asian food. Definitely went here thinking food was gonna be mediocre, but it was actually pretty good. I had their teriyaki chicken platter and everything was really good. Definitely check this place out.

So I popped out of the office mid morning to run some errands and I stumble upon sushi monger in a laneway. It was only 10.40am but I mean, who can resist sushi!!! I went in and ordered the special they had, 2 rolls + miso for $ 5. For melbournian standards, this is a steal as a sushi roll might normally cost you anywhere from $ 2.50-$ 3.50. It’s as good as getting free miso soup! Keep calm and eat sushi. I’m definitely a fan!

Now I know why there is always a queue outside here. Due to the horrific weather I finally ducked in and tried for my self. D6 — hello my new favorite thing. This place absolutely trumps over all other sushi in Melbourne(that I’ve tried). Cheap as, it’s a relatively healthy eat. Delicious. Do yourself a favour. Nom NOMNOM!

If only the place was bigger it could get 5 stars. The quality and value are second to none in Melbourne. Go early to avoid the huge lunch line queuing up for awesomeness.

The prices have stayed the same for ages(probably ever since they opened) and that’s a big reason why everyone flocks here at lunchtime. They’re even willing to line up just to grab their slice, or roll, of the sushi action. $ 5 will get you 2 rolls and a miso, and $ 6.80 gets you 3 rolls and miso. Ok to be fair, the quality is good too and extra marks go to them for friendly and efficient service. They also do bento boxes, udon and gyoza. But it’s the sushi that everyone seems to want.
