Standing Room, welcome to what is actually a fairly dead zone for decent coffee in this little section of the CBD. I mean we have a few crowd favourites in this area, but they need a bit of a shake up and I’m happy to say that I reckon Standing Room may have just put the big guns on warning. Standing Room is across the road from my office and even though it’s hidden, it takes 30 seconds(even while waiting for trams) to enter it’s beautifully designed space. And it really is beautiful; simple and minimalist. Chatting to the really friendly barista, apparently the owner is an architect with an appreciation for coffee. Well I’m a coffee drinker with an appreciation for architecture, so their design really makes me happy. But this review isn’t all about the architecture is it… Coffee wise, they have a nice blend going on from Five Senses. I’d love to see a single in the future too. Treats wise — they have an amazing looking selection of slices and biscuits. I was having a #treatyoself day when I went in to Standing Room, and decided to try the salted caramel biscuit. It was like a yo yo, but with this amazingly gooey(without escaping the biscuit) salted caramel and chocolate chunks. This is an issue because I like treats and remember how I work 30 seconds away… So the moral of this story, get a coffee, get a salted caramel biscuit, smile for the rest of the day.
