This place is always packed during dinner and up till late on Fri and Sat nights. Been here twice, never disappointed. Love the Lamb Giros Souvlaki — chunky pieces of tender lamb(mmmm… Writing this is making me hungry again), generous portion — too generous, in fact. I couldn’t finish my souvlaki, even though I barely ate the whole day. Might order the kids size next time. Highly recommend this place, especially if you are looking for a good place to eat on a weekend that won’t blow a hole in your pocket, or if you want good takeaway wraps in the city(because they do takeaways too!) Drink options so-so. And they have a special dinner menu from their Greek chef too(I think only on Fridays, not too sure)

The worst meal I’ve had in a long long time. My friends and I got a lamb souvlaki each, this fried cheese dish and a bowl of chips. As it was freezing cold, I also got a coffee. The waiter kept trying to get us to buy dips with bread and was super pushy. Service was awful. We had to wait 20 minutes to get their attention to order and half an hour to get our bill. The fried cheese was nice but I think you would feel sick if you didn’t share it. The lamb souvlaki lacked flavour, salt, and basically just taste. The lamb at times was rough and tasted raw. Ugh. The coffee tasted foul. None of us finished our meals and left in disgust.

I love this place. Normally had mixed souvlaki for lunch but decided to try eating in for dinner. Had to line up but got a table quickly. No reservation required. We had the mixed platter for 2, kalamari, salad, small chips and some pita breads. It was really good and portion was quite generous. Lamb skewer was a bit dry but the chicken one was really tasty. Kalamari was alright but not the best. Will definitely come back for dinner.

We ordered a variety of dishes and they were all mediocre at best. All lacked flavor and the dips appetizer had been pre-plated. The dips all had a ‘crust’ on them from starting to dry out. Would not recommend.

I like to consider Stalactites to be an almost-insitution: a must go in the early hours of the morning after trying out Melbourne’s finest pubs and clubs. Open 24 hours, Stalactites has a busy and dynamic atmosphere and at peak times you’ll see a line going out the door. Usually I’m not much for waiting, but this is totally worth it. I only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table at 7pm on a Saturday, which in my view was a win. Staff were super friendly and helpful and given the business of the place, surprisingly attentive despite the craziness. One thing I do not like is the layout at the entry which splits into a sit– in queue, take-out queue, and in the midst staff walking through to collect meals to take to the dining room. With two friends we had ordered the vegetarian share plate for two, a mixed, chicken and vegetarian souvlaki and large fries. No complaints about the food at all, the dips were flavourful, the pita bread was fresh and warm, and the souvlaki was well dressed and flavourful. I felt the cost was reasonable for what you get and have no qualms recommending this place to others.

I quite like this one, for both food and their decoration style! Hang out there with my crazy friends for my bday. This was my first time to try Greek food, though I eat lots of Greek yogurt. Located at the Greek precinct in Melbourne, everything looked so yum n awesome~~ To pay for that, be prepared for a long queue…

Came here a few years ago and it was the best thing I’ve ever had but things have really gone down hill since, the service was not great at all. Nobody ever got us water even though we asked 3 different waiters I ended up drinking my own bottle that I had in my bag, the food was not as good as I remember and really quite over priced. The waiters were all over the show they were dropping things, breaking things and seemed out of it, I believe they’re understaffed for the amount of customers. The manager is nice guy but that’s it. This place is over rated there are way better restaurants to try nowadays.

The quality«souva» has dropped significantly over the years, once upon a time it was the place to get good quality souvlakis. Meat quality was not good and came out cold. The place is trying to be both a restraunt and take away, yet not up to either standards. If your dining in expect to wait a long time to have your food served. Expect mix ups with your orders. It’s loud and roudy inside. The toilets on Saturday night is trashy like a nightspot. If your getting take away and you live outside the city, kebab vans on the way are cheaper and on par or better quality with less wait times.

Three words, Lots of Meats. Ok the place is always packed. They do a super fast service if you’re doing take out. I ordered the Lamb souvlaki. It was packed with meat. The catch is its nowhere near anything you get in Toronto. The tiziki sauce was pretty mediocre.

I am pretty disappointed. The food tasted okayish but nothing at all like typical Greek food. I have only been to Greece 2 times but even in the dirtiest looking place the food taster way better than the food at this restaurant. Sorry, no recommendation here. However, the restaurant is nice, staff is friendly and the ouzo tastes good.

It’s the combination of lots of meat in the souvlaki and the fresh salads. And compared to somewhere like Jimmy Grants, you are definitely getting quality and quantity in the size of the servings. Plus if you want to go past the takeaway, then its on the to traditional Greek dishes and home made cooking. The staff are usually friendly and do their best to handle peak periods. For a business that opens 24hrs a day its amazing that things run smoothly at all hours.

If you’re hungry for a lot of meat come here… Certain options give you a lot of food … I can imagine this would be the perfect weekend late night place to eat. The place is slightly money grabbing with hidden extras and high price for chips and soft drink, but that’s alright. It’s a great non-Chinatown restaurant in the city

The only thing that stands out at this place from any other Greek food I have had around the world is their terrible attitude when you step into this joint just trying to figure out how the procedure works for Eating in or Take away. The food is okay and no on the babaganoosh. The spits are impressive, but the flavor is okay.

I’ve just got to put a note in here that this is without a doubt one of the best 24⁄7 restaurants I have ever been to in my life. And not just because it’s 24/7, but one of the nicest greek food places I ever eaten at. Definitely above average. I’ve come here at least 10 times now for late night food, and have done everything from ordering a sandwich and eating it on the curb outside to ordering a bottle of wine and dining in at 1am. I’ve even come for dinner at 6pm. Every time it delivers and flawlessly. I dunno how they maintain it as its never trashed or dirty yet always full with quality food, and good service.

This place was recommended to me by a very charismatic and successful man who used to live in this city. He also said to me that the food in Melbourne is so much better than the food in Boston, and I think this place is one of the reasons. I also realised that Australian lamb, when cooked sufficiently, is excellent. I walked in very hungry and I had a Lamb Giros souvlaki, and I thought it was one of the best lunches I had in Melbourne so far. The tenderness of the lamb with the slight spice in the flavour, the warm pita bread, the nice creaminess and the flavour of the tzatziki made this an excellent pita sandwich. The dish is about $ 12.50, and after eating this dish, I was really full for the entire day and had plenty of energy to go walking around Melbourne. I was so glad I didn’t order chips with this dish. The dish was so delicious that I vividly remembered the tenderness and flavour of the lamb. I also realised that this place is open 24 hours, so it might be an excellent choice after an amazing, adventurous, delightful, and exhilarating night in the city, especially with your cool friends and your gorgeous companions, and all of you get really hungry in the process. I have never been to a Greek restaurant that actually does this, or even seen a Greek place that does this in the States. The service here around lunch time at 11:30 was a little slow but efficient. The location is excellent, it’s right in Central Melbourne. Overall, although I believe I did not have the best Greek food in Melbourne, I definitely had one of the tastiest pita sandwiches in a very long time. To reinforce this, I went to my local Greek restaurant after I came home, which was supposed to be one of the best in the somewhat decent city of Boston, and I ate a Gyro sandwich… The flavour and the deliciousness of that Gyro sandwich still fell a little short compared to the Lamb Giros souvlaki I had here. All other pita sandwiches(with lamb) I ate in other places in the somewhat decent state of Massachusetts almost tasted bland and lacked flavour. They got my stomach full, but not really full. So if you are a first time visitor to Melbourne, this place is worthwhile to get some tasty Lamb souvlaki.

Stalactites… Honestly a poor example of Greek food. Yes the portions are exaggerated, I ordered the Beef Kokkinisto and it was my fault for forgetting to request an entrée size instead of the main size but the waiter didn’t even ask me. This thing was 500g of meat in soup with green beans… Luke warm, slightly chewy and with Greek food presentation that doesn’t matter. I normally complain that portions are too small in Melbourne but this was too large and honestly, the though of having it as leftovers wasn’t a good one. With out being too harsh, it reminds me of portions and quality you find at Sophia’s… Only Greek. The souvlaki doesn’t stand out to others and at $ 12.50 it’s not cheap either. So if your visiting Melbourne and want to discover the food it truly has to offer make this one a miss and move on.

BOOKINGANDPRE-ORDERRECOMMENDEDFORGROUPOF10+(especially on Fridays) Friday team lunch we had about 15 – 20 people which we pre-booked, however we did not pre-order, which was a big mistake. It took over an hour to get our food… yes very hungry. A few of us had to get take away as we need to run back for meetings etc. So make sure you set up lunch for 1.5 — 2hrs. The food was good, I had the Lamb Giros Souvlaki with chilli sauce plus chips on the side. Service was average. Although I would like to say that the supervisor(Chris) handled the situation of us complaining about the food very well. We got free chips and he re-printed out receipt to make sure it was easier for individuals to identify how much was their meals are(we all know how hard it is to split bills when there is more than 10 people). It’s probably not a place I would go again for lunch or dinner, BUT a great place for when you have had a few to LOT of drinks! …supper time! Sorry didn’t take any photos as I was super hungry from the wait!
