Had the take away lamb souvlaki from here. A little expensive, but really tasty; the meat was tender and the taste of garlic came through really nicely. The portion was big and kept me full for hours. Recommended if you need something quick and nice, definitely better than it’s rating.

I’ve been eating souvalaki here for years and while I agree with some of the other reviewers that maybe it’s not what it used to be, I’ve still never had one bad enough to put me off coming back. Yes, sometimes you have to remind them you don’t want the dry overcooked charcoalled lamb still sitting on the hot plate. And yes, they will appear a little unimpressed with the request, but overall, they still make a good juicy souvalaki, most of the time. At least, that’s my experience.

Terrible service and dried out food! We ordered a share entrée and three mains. The house wine was not available but we were offered another bottle, $ 10 more expensive. Food was delivered, 2 mains, both souvlaki, then shared entrée. We were then informed the third main(moussaka) was not available, even though they tried to charge us for it. The lamb was dried out and grissly. It may be good on a belly full of booze, but sober, its awful!!! We will never go back!

Does Lambs warrant its bad reviews? I have been eating lamb souvlakis here for several years. They have been consistently delicious but take a great deal of strategic handling to keep the wrap together without falling apart. The meats used are tender and the combo between chilli and garlic sauce is unbeatable. Despite what most negative reviews have written, the lamb has never been dry, chewy or tough. So where does Lambs need improvement? It’s all about customer service and the dinning in experience. I had to repeat my order three times for two souvlakis and large chips. When the souvlakis arrived relatively in a timely fashion, I reminded the waiter about the large chips and he said they’re coming with a somewhat irritated attitude. 10 minutes go by after that, which is close to 25 minutes after the souvlakis had arrived. We managed to ask the waitress that our large chips had gone missing, five minutes later they arrived. The chips came out half-filled and were $ 8 from the total bill. I don’t believe anyone should wait 30 minutes for chips when it was quiet, at half the size and ridiculous pricing. That’s unacceptable customer service. Lambs have great souvlakis at great prices going for it, but the bewildering price for chips, unprofessional nature and lack of customer service provided by the staff is telling within the disappointed reviewers. It’s the biggest souvlaki I have tried and the taste puts it up there with one of the best I have had, but customer service and leaving customers feeling unsatisfied are not adequate by today’s standards. Grab a lamb souvlaki with chilli sauce on the go and maybe takeaway chips(surely they’re better value), but I can’t recommend dining in with the likelihood you’ll be disappointed, hungry reader.

I’ve eaten hundreds of souvlakis in my life and this definitely rates down there with the worst of them! I’ve eaten here a couple of times before and it was always terrible so I don’t know why I came back. The meat is atrocious, like eating lumps of fat with a hint of lamb and for $ 11 a pop it’s a massive rip off. The thing is, other Lambs, like the one on high st Northcote, are MUCH better but I suspect because of the Lygon St location these guys get away with selling dog food quality meat because most of the night revelers are too drunk to notice! Don’t step a foot in this place… unless you want a stimulus to vomit your guts out

What a rip off. They pride themselves on being some bastion of the souvlaki at Lambs, but really the attention to detail is just not there. Maybe they think we’re all just a bunch of piss-head yobbos who eat there — maybe on Lygon street their patrons are — but for the prices they charge, you’d expect much better. Chewy meat, day-old bread, limp salads, shit service; this is amateur stuff that they’re fucking up and the attitude seems to be ‘if you don’t like it, then fuck off!‘ You know what… I will fuck off. I’ll fuck right off to the myriad kebab joints in the area and get treated with a little more grace and get a slightly better meal and spend a little less money and it will make no fucking difference. Some places think they are above customer service, and I’m starting to believe through their subsistence that maybe the general public just don’t give a shit any more. Boo.

Being situated directly opposite the awesome Kebab Factory, the Carlton branch of Lambs was always going to struggle to impress me. Turns out I’m so deeply unimpressed I’ll never go back. Where to start? Oh, I know — the harassment! There were three men behind the counter. One was serving me, the other two just standing there staring right at me and whispering under their breath. I threw them a dirty look and the guy serving me noticed, then explained«Don’t worry, they are just saying how beautiful you are» — and all three burst out laughing. Now, it was 9pm and I’d spent the entire day and night studying, so I had no make up on and clearly looked awful. Charming. The souvlaki was really chewy and fatty, and the bread was stale. I also grabbed a can of coke, and by some miracle of maths the lot came to over $ 16. Seriously, take a few quick steps across the street and go to the Kebab Factory — the food is always amazing and fresh, and they treat you like a human being!

This is the same branch as the lambs on Toorak Rd, and it is the no.1 destination for a late night kebab to finish off a messy night. I have only ever been in lambs after 2am, and it hits the spot, Every time. To me, it’s the signal of the end of a good night. I’m not sure if people even go there during the day, but after midnight there’s always groups of tired out mates-sitting quietly and munching away. I don’t know whats so good about it, is it their bread? Or their tender and juicy meat… or maybe the sauce? I need to come back when I’m sober to find out for sure. For now, this place remains as one of the best lamb kebabs I’ve had, time after time-this place never fails.

If you are after something to soak up your grog-laden stomach on route home this is the place to stop. I usually make a monthly visit and order the double meat which consists of lamb and chicken and goes for $ 16 not cheap but the kebabs here are top drawer. Be warned this souvlaki will keep you full for days(I keep half in the fridge for the next night’s dinner most of the time!) There is a restaurant attached which i have never visited although I have noticed people dining.
