Not a good hotel. Room was tiny and needs a massive facelift if it wants to attract guests back. Bar was spacious but staff were jerks. Rude and didn’t seem to want to be there. If you work in customer service, you need to deal with customers. Only good part was the location to china town and it restaurants, that’s it I will not go back and would recommend you don’t go either. Plenty of better, cheaper and friendlier place in Melbourne.

Booked an inter joining family room. Awesome. Spectacular bathroom with double shower. King bed was super comfortable. No detail spared. Great location right near Chinatown, museum and the theatre.

Beware the black, brown, and grey filth/mold in the air ducts. First room I was put in only blew cold air despite being set to 30*(Celsius). Within minutes my sinuses started hurting. I noticed black matter dripping from the bathroom vent while I was showering, inspected it and it was furry. The phone line was not working, so went back downstairs. I was moved to another«upgraded“room. Immediately turned the light to shine on the air unit and saw the same black/grey filth/mold. Ran the unit for 2 mins and although it got warm, my sinuses were throbbing. It is now 3:35 am, and I am waiting for a «portable heater» while«the manager looks around for the cleanest possible room». I checked in at 12:30 with the intent of getting a good night’s sleep. And to think I paid for this.

Just awful. Exceptionally rude girl checked me in and totally ignored my supposed loyalty benefits. The room was so small I think my airing cupboard is bigger. I think even a Hobbit would have found the bathroom challenging as you can basically shower whilst you are sat on the toilet. Trying to get my company to change my hotel reservation for my next 4 trips to Melbourne this year. Am finding Rydges hotels are the pits and really don’t care about staff nor room quality. A chain to avoid when travelling.

I’ve stayed here on a number of occasions for both business and pleasure. The staff is always so welcoming, my standard room always felt very spacious, and the hotel’s location is excellent for those who love to attend shows and all of the other events that the city of Melbourne puts together. The restaurant and bar are fairly easy to get a seat at and both, as well as room service, do their best to get you what you’d like, even if it isn’t explicitly stated on their menus. Only con is the bathrooms not being up to par in style, but that’s a small downside considering it’s always serviced on time and the building seems to be a lot older than the hotel itself.

I’ve stayed here a handful of times on work trips to Melbourne. The company uses this hotel regularly so they always look after us with good rooms. I’ve only ever had a spacious room with everything I needed in it — desk, couches, tv, heater and the obvious. Which is lucky as it sounds like there are lesser rooms. The bar and lobby downstairs are great, they put out a pretty sweet breakfast spread too. Juice shots… hello. Plus, one time I met Converge outside the hotel as they were heading out. It would take a lot to tarnish that memory for me.

I had to travel to Melbourne for a few days for work and they put us all up at the Rydges. If I had a say in it, I will never stay at this hotel ever again. The rooms have clearly seen better days and need a big overhaul. The room itself is the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in and all the furniture was nearly touching other furniture it was that cramped. The bed was the worst I have ever slept in and three days later, I stil have my neck out of joint and a massive headache from it. The pillows are absolutely shocking. You could not open the bathroom door all the way because the toilet was in the way and I am sure there was something that looked like small amounts of blood on the wall. Only one door in the lobby was working which was the swivel door — not easy to manouvure when you have two bags — and no one from the hotel to assist you. They also have a «tray fee» of $ 4.00 on any room service. I do not know if this is a new thing or not but I have never had this in all my years of staying in hotels. The thing that annoyed me the most though — I was woken up by the Night Manager by his constant knocking on my door just after midnight on my first night there. He said to me that I was supposed to check out at 10.00am that day … when I had only checked in at 3.00pm. He asked me if I was sure about that. I told him to go and check because I only checked in at 3.00pm and I was booked in for 2 nights. He came back 10 minutes later telling me that he had got the wrong room! Yes he did apologise and I got a box of chocolates from the hotel but I do not think that is enough. Not a very pleasant experience and will never stay there again.
