Two stars is unfair, but the lack of a 2.5 option combined with Unilocal suggesting this is «Meh. I’ve experienced better» make it a fair assessment form my two visits. The first visit was a long time ago, and I joined a group near the end of their drinks. When I asked for a simple drink I hoped it would be relatively swift, but I ended up leaving without getting it. Rude on our part perhaps, but they too too long and the group needed to move on, which we had made clear. BEfore the second encounter, a bit about the bar. It’s very sleek and feels a lot like a cross between a fancy lawyers office, airport bar, hotel lobby(which it is in), wine cellar, cocktail bar and café. That’s not to be disparaging, but it seems to lack soul, or something like that. The beer nuts are a nice touch, but I didn’t like them. On my second visit, I met some friends and ordered a negroni. It arrived after a longer-than-fair wait. Given the place was quiet and staffed to the gunnels, it is surprising the 19 year old in the group tired of watching the ice melt while it sat on the bar and collected it on behalf the wait staff who were too busy talking about how to compromise the king of cocktails.* Again, rude, but desperate times call for desperate measures. On the up side, the 19 year old liked the drink and is a convert. When it came time to pay, the staff suitably punished us for the outrageous behavior of the 19 year old, and it took 15 mins to clear up the bill, including the wait staff suggesting we tip them and standing over the shoulder of the person who picked up the tab… Not going back any time soon. I can get slipshod service and attitude from plenty of places with cheaper drinks and more defined environments. Nothing special here. *May not have been the actual topic of conversation.

Great place to have a quiet drink. It can be a bit pricey but the service is good and the atmosphere is lovely, oh and you get nuts! I did notice that they now have happy hour specials which have wines and beers for under 10 dollars which is new. Not a destination for a rowdy night but then sometimes you want to just sit back and be looked after without the risk of someone spilling stuff on your shoe.

Visited Ru-Co around 11pm on a Saturday night. The cocktails were quite nice but I just couldn’t get into the atmosphere of this place. Maybe it’s because you have to walk through the Hyatt lobby to get to the bar, but Ru-Co felt a bit like an airport lounge, albeit a very classy one. There just wasn’t much personality to the place, and while sipping I found myself thinking about where to go next. That said, they do a VERY nice margarita here — very nice indeed. Service is very attentive, perhaps bordering on too attentive what with the waiter constantly bobbing around us, taking menus away after each drink, only to have to bring them back again. It’s a nice enough place, but not one I’d rush back to.

After a very indulgent high tea, my friends and I decided that the best thing to do was sit in the bar and have a few drinks. Oh my, we chose the bar well. How shall I describe the bar? Let me put it this way: the drinks menu lists wine by the glass, and prices range from around $ 20 to $ 8880. No, I didn’t make a typo, that’s nearly nine thousand dollars for a glass of a 1959 Dom Perignon. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a bar that had the balls to have a Dom on offer. Maybe I’ve just not seen it, or maybe this is a really exclusive, really special place to go. The cocktail list, however, not so special. I skimmed over it and then decided to move on to the wine — I’ve seen better mixes at other places and wouldn’t be comfortable paying that much for something pretty basic. The room itself is beautiful. Comfy chairs are dotted all around, and at the end is a lovely, if somewhat magical, fireplace(I’ve included a photo). The end with the fireplace can be curtained off if you need somewhere more private. What distinguishes this bar from any other(apart from the 1959 Dom Perignon) is the service. Friendly, intelligent and attentive table service. Feel like a rockstar or a very rich businessman.
