Rice Paper is eat and go food. It’s Vietnamese cooked fast but really, really great. Order your food with the unique menu numbering system(you’ll see!) and it will arrive shortly after hot and freshly cooked. Whilst waiting for your meal help yourself to the complimentary green tea and people watch. There’s a vibrancy to this place, nobody hangs around for long but everyone drops in. No doubt the rice paper rolls with prawn or lemongrass pork and hoisin dipping sauce are fantastic, but for a main try the Chargrilled Pork on Vermicelli(number 34!) — it’s an absolute winner at $ 12 and totally delicious. It also has plenty of greens, grated cucumber, lettuce and carrot — and is gluten free if that floats your boat. When you’ve eaten finish with a Vietnamese white coffee(number 117!)… it’s drip coffee with sweetened condensed milk. The presentation is fun watching the coffee dripping into your cup whilst you wait. Simply stir when done and drink hot or pour over a glass of ice to make a fantastic summer beverage.

Came here for a quick lunch with a friend(their recommendation). If you’re after a semi-quick healthy lunch — this is the spot. We shared a few of the different soft rice paper rolls, with a selection of dipping sauces. Good price, heathy option. Apparently they can often sell out during the week — as I could see the rolls to be a good take away snack too! Also have fresh cut coconuts — yummy!

A not so good Vietnamese restaurant. Most of their dishes are westernised. I order broken rice with pork. They use the wrong rice which should be broken rice. Their rice is also quite dry. The pork is also not good. Quite plain BBQ pork with vermicelli is also not tasty.

Just had one avocado/carrot rice paper roll, with Hoisin sauce, and a Tiger beer, but it was cheap, and really yummy, and I’ll def return to try more.

The one thing I’d been missing since being away from my beloved Melbourne was rice paper rolls. These things are rare as diamonds in the Midwestern United States, so one of the first things I did upon arrival was run to the nearest rice paper roll vendor and grab one. So disappointing! Rice Paper’s selection of rolls is really nice and they’re super convenient and pre-packaged for on-the-go noms, but despite rolls that sounds awesome(soft shell crab and avocado, anyone?) they were dry, tasteless, and the peanut dipping sauce was a watery, curry-filled mixture of yuck. They stuff the rolls with salad – plain greens – and only occasionally do you get the bright, fresh burst of Vietnamese mint. Totally flavorless – nothing like plain mouthfuls of greens and rice vermicelli to really whet the appetite. The rice paper itself is really dry. I like the concept of this little fast casual restaurant, but if the other food is anything like the rice paper rolls, I’d give it a hard miss.

I love quick and dirty Vietnamese food. Sometimes all you want to do is sit under excessively bright lights and eat a $ 10 bowl of spring rolls over noodles and have a three colour drink and everything will be OK. Everything is OK in Rice Paper and cheap! Wouldn’t suggest you have an anniversary dinner here but for late night stumbling around the CBD it’s pretty good.

BEWARETHE«Phở»! Soup menu items were not clearly labeled as to what type of noodles: egg or rice, thick or thin. Broth was tasteless and had no green onions, spice, or cilantro. Meat was also without flavour. Orders came out TOO quickly, we became suspicious… Vegetarian Vermicelli bowl was good, great spring rolls. Very fresh, good fish sauce. Rice paper rolls were large and average price($ 5.50÷2, but they were pre-made and no longer fresh as the outsides had dried and become crusty. At least they have real«cock brand» Sriracha sauce and hoisin on the table. Don’t stay too long or the birds will begin to nest on you. Terrible table service, hardly even served water.

This Vietnamese restaurant has a delicious soft shell crab noodle soup. That’s pretty much the only thing I order when I go there. And sometimes a nice Vietnamese ice coffee. The price is quite cheap for the amount of food we ordered. One thing I like about this is the ability to write the orders yourself, so you know they will get the orders right and you don’t need to waste time for the waiter to write down your orders. The staffs there are friendly and average servicing. Food comes out quite quick especially noodles soups. Recommend for people to try the soft shell crab noodle with some chilli paste on the side.

This is a very busy little dining hall. Expect no service. In fact, we ordered our food and got our bill before any food even arrived. The food was ok but I’ve had better. Bring cash and don’t expect the paying process to be easy. The girl was way too busy having a convo with mates between customers to really acknowledge us. No cards at all.

Located in the busy Asian restaurant strip of Swanston street, this venue puts up a good value fight against its competition with a Vietnamese comfort food proposition ATMOSPHERE It’s ALWAYS busy in here and has a fast food atmosphere in typical Vietnamese style. Simple wooden tables and chairs positioned very tightly alongside your neighboring table giving off a communal feel. SERVICE Hectic, fast, indifferent through to warm, friendly and fun are the service levels I have experienced here on my numerous visits. You write your choices on an «order chit»(yes, thats what they call it), you wave down a waitress, she confirms your order against a menu then returns with the«order chit» and bill. You can add more food to your bill if you wish later. Keep an eye on your orders as they arrive at your table indiscriminately, mains before starters etc. on one occasion a waitress arrived with some rolls, placed them on our table, her colleague shouted across room at her, she grabbed the roll out of my friends hand placing it back on the plate and then delivered the plate to a table behind us without even an acknowledgement :) FOODANDDRINKS The menu is extensive. My favourites are good old fashioned spring rolls, any of the cold noodle rolls with spicy hoisin sauce or chicken coleslaw which is very refreshing and satisfying. The beer and wine offer is limited but they do have some interesting soft drinks for those who love coconut water THEROUNDUP Why do I keep returning? It’s great value, good comfort food and I always enjoy the busy atmosphere.

I’ve only grabbed ricepaper rolls on the run. It’s not as efficient as other similar places. First place your order at the front counter. Then go inside to pay. Then go back to the counter and have your rolls boxed up… it feels as if it takes a century, but everything always does when you’re in a rush! The ricepaper rolls themselves are okay. They’re big and filling but to keep the wrap from going stiff they must dip them in a water/oil combo so they’re kind of greasy. Certainly not the super healthy meal on the run I was after.

Nice fresh food, fast service and well priced. I regularly eat in here when I’m shopping in town for a healthy fix of lemongrass chicken washed down with jasmine tea. As far as stir-fries go, it’s fresh, full of greens and not too oily. It’s well balanced in pungent and invigorating flavours and definitely moreish.

Yep, this stretch of Swanston street has a lot of similar fare. And the increasing popularity of Vietnamese and in particular, Phở, is of no surprise. I would have to say that this is solid reliable fare. It’s that guaranteed comfort of a hearty and filling meal for under $ 10. The Chicken Phở, S5, is set to become one of my future favourites. Fresh shredded chicken breast, spring onion, coriander and fresh cracked pepper with crunchy fried onion adorn the dish as presentation. flavour wise it hits the spot. So if you’re after a simple and easy going healthy and nutritious meal, or Phở rather that can be relied upon, dine here. Its much better than other options, its convenient, quick, you can get it thought out most of the day and its Phở-king delicious. Its the type of meal you need when tired, run-down, or in need of replenishment.

I love popping in here for some excellent fresh rice paper rolls on the way home, as it is right near the tram stop. Their rice paper rolls are great, and large and filling.

Not sure when this place popped up on Swanston, but I noticed it for the first time last week. It’s under The Lounge — where they used to have the fancier dining area on the street level. I have ordered take away twice now. Both times it has been fresh and tasty. Pretty cheap too. The only annoying thing is that it’s cash only. Who carries cash? Me apparently because I’ve been there twice, but I’d rather they did card too. It’s fresh, quick and tastes pretty good. Worth a try.
