This may sound a bit weird considering the other reviews of Off Ya Tree, but I came here to buy my one-year-old nephew some clothes… I’m a good Auntie, ok?! My nephew is bound to be a rockstar. He is already playing the drums(no well, but still) and was named after a certain band-member of a certain 80s hair metal band, *cough* GUNS’N’ROSES *cough*. So when my brother asked me to buy the little tacker some cool tees, I went straight here. They stock rock tee-shirts for kids of all ages including; Nirvana, Metallica and other bands that look hilarious on clothing being worn by a child. Yes, they do also stock bongs and do tattoos in the window, but there are very few other stores that stock rock tees for kids!

Part tattoo parlour, part your weird-item store, Off ya tree is a store full of alternative items for everyone. You can get clothes, bongs, piercings(you can even get pierced here), and other quirky items all under one roof and at affordable prices. A friend and i came in here due to her swallowing her tongue ring over a lunch and needed something quick before she would have to re-pierce it(OUCH!). We came in a were greeted by a few friendly ladies covered in tatts, they helped us pick out one(she went for the girliest one possible) and made small chit chat with the girls and made way home. When we were in the store, there was a guy getting tattooed and i noticed that the tattoo section of off ya tree is in full open display to the public, a tad gimmicky that all the passer-byers should see the moment you permanently inked yourself!

I often drop into Off Ya Tree when I’m in the city not to get a piercing or tattoo but to look at their range of clothes, accessories and shoes. I want some sneakers made of material with some dark styling, the ones with the checker pattern are alright but they are everywhere. Last time I was in they had a great pair with little skulls but they didn’t have it my size, I must try again. While I was there I checked out their range of belt buckles and t-shirts, some cool stuff but nothing that is really me and the prices don’t encourage me to make any spontaneous purchases.

Off Ya Tree is a stoners paradise. While the heavily tattooed/pierced staff and metal paraphernalia may seem a little intimidating for those of use who aren’t of the gothic persuasion, it can be worth a visit. I got my nose pierced here and while it was expensive($ 80 if I remember correctly) it was extremely well done. I felt comfortable at all times and the equipment and setting were extremely clean and sterile. You can also get tattoos done here, however you’ll be in view of the passers on busy Swanston Street which is a little awkward.

Melbourne’s best known alternative store offers everything from goth and rock shirts, piercing paraphernalia for every sort of piercing, and piercing available as well. Bongs, sheesha pipes, posters, fashion accessories, band merchandise and dirty, naughty magazines, it’s all here for the weird and wonderful. If you’re into smoking alternative’s to tobacco(not the illegal kind), herbal highs and adrenalin kicks chances are Off Ya Tree can help you out. Now also offering tattooing, even if you’re not into this sort of thing it’s worth a visit just for the trip you’ll experience!
