This little place is good for smaller group, space is very limited, however the list of sake is great for the drinkers. The menu has all the Japanese fare that I am familiar with and they are simple and delicious.

I didn’t know much about Sake but this place was recommended to me. Barman took time to suggest a few options and the small plates of Japanese street food were delicious. Generous portions too. Would eat again.

A great sake bar in Melbourne for when you need to feel like you’re somewhere else, far away from the usual rowdy Melbourne elbow benders! Ideal for groups of two or four. Dimly lit. Friendly staff. Comfy wooden stools. Tiny courtyard at the back. Nicely designed. Happy hour on Friday nights with a decent $ 6 house sake(warm or chilled) sets a good tone for the weekend. The food, ordered at the bar but prepared by izakaya chuji next door is decent.

This place is seriously great. It’s a lovely sake bar with an extensive selection and great specials on different days. The bar staff are pleasant and willing to suggest things for you based on your taste. The real bonus is that they’re connected to the restaurant next door, so you can get a menu and sit at the bar with a mate(you know who you are #wink) and have dinner with your drinks. The food from there has been lovely each time I’ve gone. Try the edamame. Always a good choice.

Many a wasted night has started at the bar at Nihonshu. Not sure if Fumi still works behind the bar(he hasn’t been there the past couple of times I’ve visited) however the Shochu, Sake and Japanese nibblies still get the job done. Food from the Japanese place next door is great, too
