5 of us wandered in for dinner on a Friday night — no booking and around 7pm. I’m sure they loved us. We had to wait 10 minutes or so to be seated, but the smell was enough to make us happy to wait. We ordered the $ 220 banquet plus a few starters and that was more than enough for 5 people. The goyoza was delish, sashimi perfect, and the crab that came with the starters for the banquet was amazing. The salad it came on was even better. Yum. The staff bought out a range of dipping sauces for each of us and along with a few glass of the Chardonnay we were ready for our shabu shabu. We picked a spicy miso base(it was the favorite) and the Tokyo sukiyaki. Shabu shabu is where they bring a big pot of broth to a hot plate on your table and you drop in meat and veg to cook while you wait. The banquet came with loads of seafood first. Prawns and scallops went into the broth for 20 seconds — yummmmm. Much better in the spicy miso. Various cuts of beef came out too and it’s a pretty fun, interactive way to eat. We were throwing in cabbage, and veg, and pieces of meat or seafood, and filling up each other’s bowls with delicious tiny morsels of food. Good times. The sesame dipping sauce gets a mention here for being pretty much the most delicious condiment in the world. Yum. At the end of the night(and 4 bottles of wine) we spent $ 80 each. Pretty good value and would head back again for sure.
