They have Savoury Yeast flakes also known as nutritonal yeast flakes. Good source of B12 for vegans and vegetarians. Also lovely friendly staff.

Whilst Habib’s is a bit pricey, if you live in the city or need something in a hurry, it is a great place to get whole foods, gluten-free or Vegan essentials or organics. If you need a quick lunch the salads are tasty but measured by weight, so watch out because filling a tub may cost more than you intend. The vegan cakes are quiet good and they have a good range of cool drinks. Price really is an issue, as they have a great range of meat & dairy alternatives, but the inflated price really makes them a convenience store. Habib’s do stock good bread, vitamins, baby care, household products, nuts, grains, imported products, cosmetics and a whole lot more but unless you really need that Cheezly for your Nachos right now, I’d hold off for somewhere slightly more pocket-friendly.

I went here for the first time today to check it out. there is a good, large product selection but everything is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced, some items were more than twice the price of organic/wholefood stores closer to where I live in the inner north, and three times as expensive as the same items sold as Woolworths/Coles etc. The staff member/owner was rude and unhelpful, I asked if they had vegan yoghurt starter and he pointed to the meagre selection of three flavoured soy yoghurts in the fridge, and then I clarified and said«no, I need actual culture, to make my own yoghurt» and he pointed at the fridge again and said«nope just those yoghurts». If he was clever or had the slightest amount of acumen he might have offered to order some in, or suggest an alternative… To top it all off, when I got home, I noticed that one of the items I paid for was not in my shopping bag. It’s probably still sitting at the register, he obviously would have noticed that he forgot to pack it in the bag but didn’t bother to call out to me or run after me, so I just paid an inflated price for some vegan bhaba ghanoush that I don’t even get to eat. If you are stuck in the CBD and need something quickly, by all means come here(unless the same item cannot be found in an asian grocer, for example) but don’t make this your regular health food store. it’s a total rip-off.

Habib Wholefoods is a little oasis of natural foods in the city, and one of my go-to stops for dietary-restriction and health food needs. My main schtick is that I’m virulently allergic to dairy(i.e., I break out in hives and wheeze), and here I can usually find what I need to supplement or substitute, as needed. The gluten-free, vegans, and anyone with dietary quirks, whether by birth or by choice, will be similarly happy to know about Habib’s. My other schtick is my natural, whole foods obsession — and here I blame my granola-crunching momma, who schlepped us kids to the natural foods co-oop on the weekly. One of the things I miss most about all of the wonderful Left-Coast USA cities I’ve been lucky enough to call home over the years is the plethora of amazing natural foods stores. Obviously, it’s a yuppie problem of the worst kind when one can’t bear the thought of living without two different kinds of agave nectar, flourless sprouted-grain bread, and Braggs Liquid Aminos. Guilty as charged. But if you’re reading this review, maybe you are too. And maybe you’ve also found that Thomas Dux lets you down any time you’re having one of those yuppie food crises. Here, too, Habib usually delivers where the Dux can’t. Besides basic foodstuffs and fresh produce, there is a prepared food section where you can grab a quick(and healthy) lunch. It’s no PCC Natural Market(Seattle), or Rainbow Grocery(San Francisco), let alone the empire known as Whole Foods, Inc. But for Melbourne, Habib’s is a five-star wonder.
