Coles Supermarket

Good prices on food items here but not super cheap either. Good selection of meats and has all the essential snacks and drinks, milk, water. Its location is very convenient being the center of many things. Cashiers were nice and fast with someone directing the traffic to cashiers. Overall, is gladly come back for restocking.

for a quick food run, this is the place to go. As it is a smaller store in my opinion, I feel some goods are limited but when you are in a pinch and would rather not go to the store near flinders, you are set.

This rating is for this particular Melb. Central location for Coles as compared to other Coles. Coles is expensive, in general, but this one really takes the cake.
3.98/kilo bananas is just hideous. Walk ten minutes down to Queen Victoria Market and get some for .99/​kilo. All of the produce is sort of sickly looking and out-​of-​season. Melbourne-​dwellers are so lucky to have so much gorgeous produce available all over; take advantage of it!
The aisles are claustrophobic and the place is always packed. If you go in there and don’t know exactly what you want, don’t think for a second you can stand out of the way and scour the candy aisles for something that sounds good. There is no out of the way. You are always in the way. Get out of the way.
BUT, this place is open surprisingly late, is amazingly convenient being located right next to the train station, and I am guilty of dashing in when my train is taking awhile to buy a snack or pick up a quick staple for dinner. Checkout lines are quite fast even when they’re long, so good on the cashiers and self checkout machines for working hard.

This is a great Coles — well set out, and plenty of self-​serve checkouts. My favourite part is the regular and reliable supply of 100 Plus for the day after the night before.
The vege often seems denuded, so if I relied on this place late evening in order to get supplies, I would probably be frustrated.

I had traveled all around Australia so I didn’t want to tote the goodies I was bringing back to the States with me until I was at my last stop. Since Melbourne was my last stop, Coles was my last stop the night before I left for my vegemite, twists, shapes, and tim-​tams, among many other things.
Am struck by how successful self-​check-​out is in this country, as absolutely no one really likes it in America.

I love Coles, it is my one and only destination for grocery shopping — fresh products and ingredients (ask Curtis Stone and Matt Preston if you don’t believe me!) and great deals (my5!).
Coles Melbourne Central is ok, nothing special about it and definitely does not compare to the Southbank, South Melbourne, Camberwell and Brunswick stores. I’ve found those 4 to be bigger, cleaner and with a broader range of products.
The Melbourne Central store is more of an express store and (set literally next to the train station ticket validation gates) it will definitely suit shoppers who simply want to do a quick bit of shopping or grab something they previously forgot before they catch their train home.
