Flinders Lane Gallery

Flinders Lane is home to some of Melbourne’s finest contemporary Art. I’ve been to a few exhibitions and blown away by some of the art showcased here.
Flinders Lane Gallery is located on (well, you guessed it) Flinders Lane. It’s tucked away on the back street’s to the main CBD but a short walk will get you there.
I went to the gallery with a friend a few days ago and laid eyes on some exquisite pieces of art from William Breen. His painting could almost be photographs they are that realistic. The paintings were mainly of Melbourne shops and café’s, and how much would a slice of contemporary Melbourne cost you? Well one was selling for $ 14 000.

Hurrah, the gallery was open on a beautiful Friday afternoon. Walk in and there is an abundance of art; probably more art available than what the owners of this gallery can even hang up at any given moment. Could be a slight turn off; because hey: if you have spare pieces of art available to sell: for heaven’s sake keep it obstructed from the customers view. The smell was divine, the walls could have recently been freshly painted, and there were clear and telltale signs of a busy and successful art gallery here. It wasn’t dim or quiet. The staff were on the phone, it was trendy; impressive and a real stand out apart from the art sticking out in the back.
Intriguing art in itself; a short but sweet exhibition of quality art that Melbourne has been yearning to expect, and has been delivered by clever artists. We are talking about art that would be worthy of respect and a prominent place in any trendy, chic, stylish and sophisticated contemporary living space. If you are into fine, quality art then this place deserves a visit from you. You will not be disappointed. Definitely a crowd attracter and pleaser on our hands here.

Whenever I’m looking at galleries in Flinders Lane and I want to see excellent paintings I go to Flinders Lane Gallery, as it seems to specialize in good painting by contemporary artists. The paintings aren’t radical avant-​garde but they are not conservative either. I particularly enjoy that the gallery represents Mark Ogge, Garry Pumfrey and Greer Honeywill because I really enjoy seeing their paintings.
This time there is an exhibition of paintings by three artists from the small indigenous communityof Bulgul. The gallery exhibits paintings by aboriginal artists in the same way that they exhibit any artist. The emphasis is always on the quality of the painting.
Established in 1989 Flinders Lane Gallery is one of the top commercial galleries in Melbourne — not that the women behind the reception desk try to sell it to me. They know that I, like most of the people who come into the gallery, are only there to look at the paintings.
There are two gallery spaces, so generally, there are two different artists exhibiting at any time. And, like all commercial galleries has a stock room at the back of the gallery. The stock room is not open to the public but you can see some of the paintings along the corridor leading to the stock room.
