Really relaxed atmosphere. Benches great for small groups. Bartenders are friendly as.

Bar Humbug is a little unassuming bar at the lower end of Little Bourke with intimate lighting and great food. This is one of those places where couples come to canoodle, and friends meet to have a debrief after work… this bar is one that attracts friendly festive folk, the food is just a bonus. Sorry folks no ‘happy hour’ at Bar Humbug!

Bar Humbug this place works well. A small area, down some stairs AND near a major train station? Add in friendly staff and a neat little cocktail menu. You can’t go past the little rolls of delicious joy giving nom noms. Also more commonly known as pork sliders. Our cocktails arrived in style and with a smile. We couldn’t complain and will be coming back again.

After booking in a 12 person team lunch with Bar Humbug(despite the warnings from the staff there that 6 was the maximum booking they would normally accept) I found the staff to be friendly, the food to be of reasonable quality(although a little on the overpriced side) and the seating was not entirely comfortable. One thing I did notice is that the barstaff were not very attentive towards the end of the meal. Didnt ask for second drink orders or coffee which was a bit weird. This place would definately be much better as just a bar. :-)

I don’t know how long Bar Hum Bug has been there. I came across it about six months back, wandering around the Western CBD looking for a karaōke joint that doesn’t seem to exist any more. It was love at first sight. Actually, it wasn’t. It was lust at first sight — I spotted the Dickensian reference in Bar Hum Bug’s little wooden sign, and then the windows to the bar underground, and thought«Mmm-Mmmmm.» It wasn’t until a while after that I actually managed to drop by, looking for a drink on the way home from watching the football at the dome. It seemed like the kind of place which might avoid the post-football scrum, and it mostly did — although it certainly had a crowd of its own. And, like most drawn-out crushes, it was a little bit of a letdown. There’s not a lot to it beyond the funky sign and the basement vibe. It’s comfortable(if a bit loud) and it’s got some nice artwork on display. But it’s just your average, slightly-too-cool city bar with your average slightly-too-cool city crowd, with not a lot on tap and a slight premium on the prices.
