Disappointed today. This place has been my local for many years and the food used to be consistently good, no matter what the order. I still love the beer garden, but I would recommend you only order food that comes out of a deep fryer.

Great pub to visit on a sunny day… Awesome food as well but on the pricey side so as long as you expect to pay a lot more than your average Sydney pub meal price. But hey, it’s a lot better than your average pub too… Get down to the ‘door’ on a sunny day & enjoy…

Nice courtyard for a drink on a good day.
The pub also features a gaming area, indoor seating, and a bottle shop downstairs.
The food from the bistro is presented well although priced a little on the high side for pub food. I found a hair in the side salad on this visit which was disappointing (and upon looking through to the kitchen worked out whose it probably was — kitchen staff with long hair should be wearing hairnets/​adequate headwear!).
I was offered a replacement meal when reporting it to the kitchen, and later a dessert to make up for it (still I had paid for the meal). When things like this happen though it tarnishes the experience.
I’ll probably be back though but only if my friends or colleagues were already going, but not sure I would eat here next time.

I have been here few times already but recently for Xmas party. The food was really nice and my fish was delicious! The place is always buzzing specially on nice day as there is plenty outdoor seating.

Just spent a bit of time here while on a business trip. Nice selection of beers on tap, spacious outdoor patio with lots of fresh air, and a solid «pub food» style lunch and dinner menu.

Not bad. I’ve been here once for a beer, and last night for a special after-​work event, with the private room and some catered finger food.
It’s always a busy, buzzy place, with its mix of indoor and outdoor areas, and close to the North Sydney business district (my wife says it’s the default lunch location for her workplace). If you’re just here for a drink it seems much the same as any other large-​ish, nice-​ish drinking hole. They’ve got a James Squire and Fat Yak on tap, so there’s some decent choice.
But I was quite impressed with the snack food they brought around to our crowd. The mini sausage rolls seemed hand-​made, not machine-​produced, and were fat, juicy, crumbly, and spicy. Everything else, from spring rolls to breaded prawn skewers, was restaurant-​quality, and did not seem like mass-​produced frozen food. Nice.

I think Commodore has some of the best food when comparing all of our usual pub lunch destinations in Nth Sydney.
Only problem is that it’s more expensive and not a place you want to go every week. Probably $ 20+ depending on your lunch choice and assuming you get a drink.
So it has become our unofficial «special occasion pub» at work. Welcome lunch? Book a table at Commodore please. Really nice steak sandwich, Wagyu beer burger, or risotto. Also a fan of the quesadillas at times. Outdoor seating for big groups, but a good idea to book during the week.
I’ve never been for after work drinks. I probably wouldn’t bother unless someone else planned them for here.

The Commodore is a great place to start after work drinks on Thursdays or Fridays. Why you might ask? Because they have pretty killer happy hour specials! Usually it’s $ 4 for house red, white, bubbly and beer. Occasionally they’ll have $ 10 cocktails instead, even so, the cocktails are of pretty great quality. Also, I like that this place doesn’t usually get too busy, and you can generally find a place to sit, even with a group of friends.
I agree that it is not a destination bar, and you DO NOT need to go out of your way to dress too fancy here. Just show up, have a few drinks and then decide what to do for the rest of the night. Be forewarned though, with the $ 4 drinks, it can be hard to convince friends to leave this place…
A word on the food – I’ve had a few things here, nothing has impressed me, and most things are overpriced. In fact, I’ve made the decision to never eat here again. There are so many great restaurants right nearby, you’re better off leaving to grab a bite to eat.

Ahhh, the trusty commodore — never a bad option, never the best… and has been around for as long as I can remember.
Stopped by to catch up with a friend last night, where we both took advantage of the cheap $ 12.50 steaks. Good value, not a bad meal. We both asked for medium rare, but it was served closer to medium (and oddly charcoaled on the outside a bit). The mash was a bit uninspiring (it nearly tasted like the packaged mash you can buy), but the peppercorn sauce was a good bet. Served with salad for some greens, overall reasonable for the price.

Gastropub this is not. Good place for a decent burger at lunch it is. Wash it down for a James Squire or two and you’re golden. Oh please avoid the meat pie and fish and chips. I found both very disappointing.
I never understand why there are so many women dressed so fancy for this place. It is just a fancy ‘local pub’ and I would not consider this a destination bar.
The beer garden is great and I would recommend finding a place in the outdoor seating if weather permits.

Ladies in high heels be warned: the Commodore isn’t a particularly long walk from North Sydney station, but the hill can be deceptive steep.
Alas I’ve seen more than a few gals come unstuck en route to the Commodore — which is really much more sporty than glam, so I find the very sight of stilettos bemusing anyway. No, the Commodore is where you go to have a few beers and watch the rugby, or where you and your family can go for a lazy Sunday lunch (there’s even a kids menu).
The surrounds may be leafy, but The Ivy this ain’t.
Nor does it need to be. The Commodore is a great, laid back summer evening hang out. And with a function room it’s even a pretty handy place for a party. I spy the $ 10 steak night is now $ 12.50 MOOOndays, while the rest of the pub grub is similarly well priced ($ 16 – 22) and appetising. And if you’re good at sharing then the ‘grazing plates’ are a particularly good idea for groups.
My one gripe with The Commodore is that smoking is allowed on the outdoor terrace. Now I know that it’s technically ‘outdoors’, but with the fixed umbrellas and plastic sheeting drawn down on rainy/​wintery days, it gets pretty darned enclosed on that terrace, which makes people smoking super annoying.

The Commodore has been a much-​loved local for many years, servicing liquid lunches for North Sydney workers and hoards of sports fans with an outdoor projector screen set up especially for the annual rugby season.
The menu a couple of years back offered up a solid range of varied lunch and dinner dishes — take the crumbed calamari salad with bean shoots, toasted peanuts and lime juice dressing, for instance — but last time I went back, the lauded $ 10 steak deal was a sinewy disappointment.
More recently, they’ve jazzed up the outdoor area with hanging Chinese lanterns, renovated the interiors and given the façade a fresh slick of green paint. Coupled with rave reviews for their overhauled bistro menu, it seems this old faithful is making an impressive comeback.
Avoid Thursday nights when North Shore youngins swamp the pub before heading up the road to the Greenwood Hotel.

The Commodore Hotel on Blues Point Road is an old favourite for those wanting a drink or something to eat when over in the North Sydney part of town.
There is a massive beer garden which is where majority of people plonk themselves down for the day but also has a restaurant and a few tables inside. The food is quite good but make sure you have a squiz at the specials board when you order. You’re sure to find something worth trying!
It’s a great place to whittle the afternoon away and if you find yourself there into the night there is always some thing going on or on the big screen to keep you content.
If you’re ever around North Sydney head down Blues Point Road and stop over at the Commodore.

From the outside I always thought the Commodore Hotel Pub would be an idyllic place to sit on a Sunday afternoon, enjoy a glass of wine with views of the harbour under the leafy trees in the courtyard as the sun goes down. It wasn’t quite what I’d imagined. Instead of harbor views you get street views and all the TVs were blaring with the rugby. Ok, it’s a pub I get that but it’s just that it gives the impression it will be an upmarket, gastro pub meal, civilized kind of place. I was there in winter too so the leaves on the trees were absent.
To be fair I think I caught the Commodore on a bad day (or perhaps it caught me on a bad day). The tapas menu is extensive and the food is genuinely good and reasonably priced. There’s an indoor area with couches were a few families with kids were hanging out and another open room where a function was being held.
Minus the football I think this would be a pleasant Sunday out.

Super cool, gibt viele Bier und Weinsorten, leckere Snacks und jeden Sonntag Steak mit Pommes oder Kartoffelpü und Salat für 10AU$. Ist immer voll, wenn man also zu spät kommt, gerade am Wochenende, dann muss man stehen. Man trifft viele Leute und es ist mit großen Schirmen überdacht, also wenn es mal regnet ist es nicht schlimm, und wenn man raucher ist kann man draussen auf der großen Terasse schmöken bis zum Umfallen… ist auch durch Heizstrahler beheizt, somit kann man auch im Winter dort sitzen ohne zu frieren…
