My favourite local breakfast so far. My partner & I have been a few times and can’t go past the cacao hazelnut granola with coco yogurt and almond milk. It tastes like grown-up coco pops :) We will also usually get the sourdough bread with the amazing honey. The berry smoothie, juices and teas are also great and my husband reports that the coffee is solid. Highly recommended for a breakfast to feel good about.

There’s something beautiful happening in Perth’s raw food scene. Whilst it’s definitely not ‘new’(Victoria Park’s ‘Loving Hut’ and Mt Lawley’s ‘Veggie Mama’ have been serving up raw vegan treats for years) it’s becoming more accessible, more affordable and — dare I say it — more mainstream with each year that passes. I mean that in a positive sense. A few years ago, you probably wouldn’t have seen your neighbour’s dad ordering kale salad and kombucha(unless your neighbour’s dad was, you know, a yoga instructor). Nowadays, I’ve seen everyone from bodybuilders to grandparents stopping in at raw food joints for paleo toast and creamy almond milk lattes. The entrenched association between health food and ‘hippies’ is gradually dwindling, to the benefit of the city’s waistlines(don’t get me started on diabeetus). Whilst being a regular at quite a few other raw food joints across Perth city, it took me a while to get to ‘The Little Shop of Plenty’. My first visit took place this morning, at least eight months after the café opened in June 2015. Whilst ‘Plenty’ has a small associated parking area at the rear of the café(about six spaces), these were well and truly full by my arrival time(almost 12pm). I took advantage of street parking on nearby Eighth Avenue but being a scorching Perth weekday, the walk wasn’t so fun. I’d like to say that the interior of the café offered sweet relief from the 40 degree C Summer temperature but… well, I think their air-conditioning was a victim of increased humidity. The café was almost as sticky as the air outside, with no discernible flow of air. However, this was swiftly remedied by some gorgeous spiced pineapple kombucha($ 8, batch-brewed by Gypsy Elixirs in Fremantle) and friendly conversation. A scan of their menu(predominantly plant based, raw wholefoods) led to an order of sautéed mushrooms and kale with cashew crème and gluten-free sourdough toast($ 16.50). The food was beautiful. Juicy sautéed mushrooms and vibrant kale sat happily under a drizzle of garlicky cashew crème with a sprinkle of nigella seeds. I piled the lot on the ‘Strange Grains’ toasted gluten free bread which, to be honest, was possibly the best gluten free bread I’ve ever eaten(a tribute to Jenny Holten and her team at Strange Grains, Leederville). The crumb was soft enough to soak up the remainder of the mushroom juice in my ramekin, contrasting beautifully against the crunchy golden crust. Man, if only all gluten free baking was this good. My dining companion ordered the wonderful raw field mushroom pizza with a drizzle of cashew crème fraîche($ 16). The base looked chewy and delicious with a golden hue from dehydrated tomato purée. We both refrained from the Cocowhip(a difficult thing to do, seeing as it was a hot day and Cocowhip is respectably virtuous) though next time I am definitely going to order a cupful($ 7) with raw chocolate topping… or possibly salted date caramel. Or both. It’s all about balance, right? ‘Plenty’ is the real deal. Healthy, delicious, authentic and approachable. Although the entire menu is plant based, the café makes coffees with Jersey cow’s milk(for those who can’t stomach plant milk) and sous vide eggs are available($ 3) as an accompaniment to all meals. Absolute virtuous food heaven.

PROS — Coco Whip, this stuff is heaven! Creamy and delicious and Vegan! — The sourdough with avocado was yummy, there was so much avo on the plate, I could have done with more toast tbh. — Friendly service and good vibes CONS — Parking can be very difficult to find — The salt is communal in little pots so everyone is sticking their fingers in it, they should get some shakers instead.

Love this place. It’s so great to have a local vegan/vegitarian place in Maylands. The food is consistently excellent. Definitely worth a visit.

I’m more the kinda gal that likes to indulge in those guilty pleasures in life. Food that puts you into a blissful coma, filled with satisfaction — deep fried chicken that leaves yours lips glistening with oil. Or the moorish brownie that hits that gooey chocky spot that you are trying to fill. However, on a beautiful Sunday morning, my date and I had arranged to meet at another place in Maylands. Alas the place was packed, and there were people waiting. So by default, we crossed the tracks to The Little Shop of Plenty. It was a first date, so being able to get one of the tables outside to bond and test the chemistry, was great, whilst having some privacy. The menu has super healthy options. I would like to think that I know my food, but some things were very new and exciting to me. And maybe I couldn’t find the deep fried bacon with peanut butter, served on French toast that I may have preferred, the healthy fruit cup with coconut yoghurt and grains was actually really yummy.(I know! I sound surprised) Plus the banana smoothie hit the spot. I walked away feeling really great. Quite polar opposite to the feeling I get after devouring a two piece feed from a certain establishment.

Good options for vegetarians, and they also have cocowhip which is great. I like the large alfresco area also.

A healthy addition to the area, you can come and enjoy coffee and raw treats or something more substantial. The staff are really friendly and happy to explain any of the items to you if you are feeling a little unsure about the ‘raw’. Slow cooked egg with some of the Strange Grains gluten free breads along with their berry chia jam or the sweet potato and sauerkraut are among my favourites. There’s also the buckwheat granola and did I mention the Coconut Iced Tea? Try the in-house freshly made iced tea — it’s SO refreshing! I really love the way they have taken this building(an old garage) and turned it into some fun and functional giving you a variety of seating areas inside and outside. Plus there’s a little shop(surprise, surprise) of goodies that you can browse too. Definitely worth checking out, a new favourite of mine to add into the mix!

Love the Little Shop of Plenty! Been hear a few times and the food is always superb. Fun atmosphere and very friendly staff. Perfect small snacks to full breakfast lunch or dinner. The prices are super reasonable so it doesn’t have to be a treat to stop in here!

We live just around the corner from 8th avenue and have regularly seen this place ‘across the tracks’ since it opened. The only thing disappointing about today’s experience is that we didn’t come here sooner. I totally agree with Laura, it is a mini raw kitchen for Mt Lawley. I can’t vouch for whether they have a killer dinner dish like the yellow curry from raw kitchen but the menu looks great across the board. Inventive breakfasts, healthy and tasty lunch, so many raw treats, cold pressed juices and green smoothies. They love everything healthy, love GF and it is all tasty. We will be back, more updates to come…

Menu is a tad confusing but they do have some interesting dishes, such as raw pizzas, fancy smoothies and paleo meals. Both dishes that we had were fresh and you could tell they were from good quality produce. The huevos was well seasoned and packed with great flavours and textures. Every mouthful had its own unique flavour. Paleo plate was good but could have been better with extra added protein? Felt like the dish lack substance and did not match the price tag. Still a quality dish with well prepared mushrooms and sweet potatoes. But like I said, they do cost quiet a bit. I guess that’s what you pay for a raw/vegan dish these days. I would definitely recommend their ice mocha + coco whip. It’s creamy but not too thick and the cocowhip tasted like ice cream minus the calories! Overall this place has a great atmosphere with its clean and fresh deco, price is a tad on the high side but it’s worth it’s money if you are into the fresh/healthy produce and vegan scene.

Healthy breakfast options perfect after a Sunday walk. Busy little place so you have to be quick to get a table but I’d happily go again.

I find myself visiting this healthy café more and more. It’s about a 5 minute walk from home, close to the train station and lots of space that I wont be all up in the grills of the person next to me. The space use to be a mechanist garage and they have kept the industrial interior and transformed it into something minimalistic chic. The space is the biggest bonus, especially the tables outside. The break up the industrial feel, they have planted trees which adds to the laid back vibe. I must admit, at first I was apprehensive about after reading the menu and seeing the prices. But its on par with all the other organic, raw, vegan/vegetarian cafes and restaurants nearby. No one said healthy is cheap but it can be easy. I do enjoy the berry smoothie($ 9.50) and a fudge raw bar(cacoa and macca or hazelnut) feels naughty, but isn’t really. I love that they offer matcha lattes and a range of red espresso options with honey and cinnamon. That way there is something for all levels of health conscious. So go green and embrace the raw food revolution.

Absolutely perfect! Fresh healthy food made with love — what more could you ask for! Have kombucha on tap, coco whip and many more delights. Ideal for breakfast, lunch, brunch or a decadent snack! Would recommend the almond granola :-) Staff are awesome, a few parking spaces at the back if you are early or time it right and they have a cute shop too that sells amazing little trinkets.

Great salads, tasty and of substance. Lovely treats and coffee with friendly service. A little noisy inside but a nice option of under cover outside or if a sunny day seats in the yard. I took my mum who is not a raw eater and she really liked it so will go again if in the area. It’s nice to have a tasty alternative in the area.

I’m really into this place! It’s like a little Raw Kitchen of the north. Minimalist exterior and interior. A great selection of smoothies and cold-pressed juices. Outdoor dog friendly tables and seating, means Boris the dog and I will be frequenting The Little Shop a lot over the warmer months. The menu is pretty small, a few salads, a couple of raw pizzas and then breakfast items on top of that. The also have some raw desserts in the glass cabinet at the counter. I had the mushroom raw pizza, that came with a side of garden salad which was delicious. They have a small shop(as the name would suggest) in the middle room of the café, which sells cook books, jewellery, pot plant holders and more. I’d love to see more stock in the shop in the future. Staff were friendly with incredible glowing skin, as you come to expect from these health cafes. Parking at rear of building.

Maylands welcomes another superb café. Offering a different product to the already existing suite of café offerings. If you’re into healthy café alternatives that include buckwheat granola or «strange grains gluten free sourdough» then you’re in luck when it comes to breakfast. Paleo is also on offer. The place is bright and feels energetic. Feels healthy in fact. We had a long Mach and iced chocolate with 2 of their cake deserts. Loved it all. My fussy 8 year old daughter loved the iced chocolate served in a jar. Coffee wed really well made. Rated full flavoured with nutty overtones.

The smoothies we order come out quickly. For my dining companion, it’s a coconut and mango made up of young coconut, mango, banana and a drop of doTerra lime oil. For myself, a vanilla and blackberry which also had banana, lucuma and fresh almond milk. Despite the fact that they’re vegan, they’re both so creamy and fresh with loads of flavour. The coconut and mango smoothie is definitely the winner, but I really enjoy the unique flavour of mine — not many places use blackberries in dishes and I’m quite partial to this darker plump berry. At $ 9.50 each, these smoothies aren’t the cheapest but it seems to be somewhat the market rate these days — and you can tell that the quality of the ingredients used are nutritious, fresh and best of all, gentle on my tummy! My fellow diner’s dish of sautéed mixed mushrooms and kale($ 16.50) was accompanied by two slices of gluten free sourdough. The dish was sadly missing the cashew nut crème fraîche that was meant to be drizzled on top, but given the restaurant has only been open a couple of weeks and they were quite busy we were forgiving of this oversight. Because luckily enough the mushrooms were jam-packed with flavour and full of earthy goodness. I love just how meaty mushies can be, and how satisfying too. I couldn’t let myself go past the avocado and lime smash($ 15.00), accompanied by organic sprouted khorosan bread. Yum. I felt my tastebuds and the rest of my insides sing the moment I had my first bite. The avocado was zingy and oh so limey, with some lovely fresh greens to accompany. It’s quite a generous serving — none of this half an avocado business, I’m pretty sure I was dealing with a whole one here(and quite happily so). Out of all the avocado smashes I’ve had around Perth, I’m calling this as my favourite. Sure, my normal state would love some goats cheese or even chorizo… but you actually don’t need it. There’s just so much vibrancy and flavour that it was a wonderful dish in itself. I also really like the sprouted bread. It’s dense but almost nutty in flavour, with heartiness. A great accompaniment to my creamy soft avocado. Since it is breakfast we both also order a slow cooked local paddock egg in shell to accompany our meals($ 3.00 each). I like the cute little plastic holders with a side of salt and pepper to sprinkle over the top! When I saw the quivering eggs I was immediately excited. Oh so how a slow cooked can seduce me in ways I can’t even explain. My whites were soft and supple, slipping out of the shell with a little coaxing from my spoon. Unfortunately the yolk was just a little bit more set than I would have liked — after all I’m all about that yolk porn shot.
