This place is my Thai local and we frequent here at least once a fortnight. Our fave dishes are the red duck curry and massaman curry, but to be honest we have never had a bad meal. It’s quite small so if you know in advance you’re going it’s worth booking a table to avoid disappointment. BYO too!

This review is for takeaway only. I caught up with the lovely Pia and Sal last week and Pia ordered us some take-out from Ploy Thai. I was really impressed. We had the pad Thai, cashew chicken and green chicken curry. All of the dishes were great and the meat used in the dishes was of quite a high quality compared to other Thai restaurants I have tried in Perth. The pad Thai was a touch dry, but everything else was spot on. Their prices are slightly cheaper than others I frequent and they deliver — bonus points!

Exceptionally great quality Thai cuisine at ridiculously cheap prices. what is there not to love! The venue itself may not be as appealing to the eye as other places but as soon as you walk in you get that authentic Thai vibe. The staff are friendly and efficient and the service is quick. The curries are fresh and tasty and are hands down the standout option from this Thai hotspot. ps. did I mention it’s byo without corkage charges? winner!

Cheap & Tasty thai food with delivery to surrounding areas. The pad thai & red lamb curry are good. I have once had delivery from here and the stir fry was a bit stodgy by the time it got to me but no issues when i have dined in.

I went to Ploy Thai on the Long Weekend Monday night, as we had gotten back from camping and it was early(5pm) we thought we would see if it was open. Lucky for us it was and we were promptly greeted and seated at the very front with window seats. Menu is limited and space is also limited in this small local restaurant. However the food is flavoursome and great value. I can recommend the Money Bags, Tom Yum Soup, Special Fried rice(it has loads of chicken in it) Penang curry and the Pad Thai. Big portions enough for lunch the next day. Ploy Thai also does BYO and takeaway, so a nice cheap meal is here to be had when next in this neck of the woods, if you can grab a table.

Great, cheap Thai food! Offer takeaway, delivery for $ 2.50 and free byo. Cute little restaurant, lovely staff. I ordered Pad Thai, red curry w/rice, spring rolls for $ 40, big servings was enough for two with leftovers. Lots of flavour and veggies, will definitely be back :)

This tiny place is always full of people coming in and out. When I called up they said they were full, only to come back and say yes we have a table for you. I don’t understand their system, but I’m not complaining. I can recommend the tamarind prawns and the duck curry. I would avoid the pad thai as it’s just a-okay, but nothing to rave about. I’m more about the curries, which are full of flavour and are bound to warm the cockles of your heart– especially in winter. I think most people in Maylands are aware of this gem. It’s small, but good for small groups, reasonably priced and cosy.

The restaurant is tiny and it can often be hard to get a booking. Thankfully luck was on my side and I was able to snag a table for 6. We started with an order of spring rolls. I’m not sure if the spring rolls are made in-house but they’ve very big and were devoured by some very hungry diners. The table ordered ‘family style’. Dd chose not to be a part of the ‘family’ to avoid an anaphylactic reaction… so I suppose she can be excused ;) We ordered my favourite Pad Thai. I’m not a fan of sweet Pad Thai or excessive bean sprouts and Ploy Thai avoids both of these. The portion is very generous and made its way around the table twice. The Green Chicken Curry had a spicy bite which scared some of my diners. The meat to sauce ratio was generous. I didn’t like the pieces of carrot and a piece of tomato, although I think the tomato was there for garnish and should’ve been removed. The Beef Masaman Curry was really great and quite a mild but flavoursome curry. The meat was tender and although the meat and potato to sauce ratio wasn’t as generous as I’ve had previously, it was an ample portion for us. I know that other diners have not been happy with the cut of meat being used in the Masaman curry — instead of cubed beef, they are now using thin beef strips. We also ordered a Chicken Kung Pow(stirfry chicken with fresh chilli and basil). I have had this dish before and it was pretty spicy, so requested it was mild and it was perfect. Aside from the Pad Thai, it was probably my favourite dish.

Okay, so here’s the thing, it’s good, but it didn’t knock it out of the park for me. Disclaimer: I’ve been eating some seriously amazing Thai food at the same place back home for years, so I will say that my standards are about as high as the CN tower that we can see as we walk outside the door. One rainy day last week we embarked on a mission for some Thai food and decided on Ploy as it’s in our favorite little corner of Maylands. Upon entering I found it very quaint with cosy little tables, however that also became a bit of a problem. As our Panang Curry, Thai Fried Rice and Stir Fried Chcken came out, we didn’t have enough room on the table to fit all of our plates so we had to embark on the embarassing journey of taking up half the table next to us as well. In the taste category I can only score an A-OK. The flavour was fair enough, but both the chicken and the beef in our dishes were quite tough. Portion size was what you would expect for Perth. The servers were nice enough, but unfortunately there isn’t enough incentive for us to call this our Thai place. The search continues.

Love, love, love this little place! The duck curry is INCREDIBLE. I’m not just saying that. I often order 2 as a takeaway just so I can put one in the freezer. Staff are always friendly, as seems to be the way with Thai restaurants. If you eat it in, it is cosy. Not too cramped, but fairly small. Delivery for takeaway is cheap as well, I think around $ 2.50 otherwise done in– no corkage!

Thai has to be one of my favourite countries food. I enjoy almost every different dish, I am always on a hunt for the best restaurant. When one of my friends told me about this place, she had nothing but good things to say, so after that I had to give it a go. Oh and boy was she right, top 3 favourite Thai restaurants in Perth, big call for me, but it takes the price. I have had a few dishes from here, pad thai is to die for and green chicken curry, yes, yes and more yes! If you are a fan of Thai food and haven’t tried this place yet, what are you waiting for?

Definitely one of the best Thai places around Perth, Ploy offers a great menu, friendly staff and traditional Thai décor which makes for a comfortable dining experience. Personally, I have only had good experiences at Ploy, though I have heard a complaint or two, but everyone has their off days. The red duck curry is definitely the customer favourite, and a must try!
