Somewhere between a café and a corner store, FAQ seems to have done everything it could to make the transition, but fallen slightly short. The building has been given a makeover, with a lime green color scheme, trendy retro style chairs and tables and a glass fronted service area. The menu is quite appealing and the staff pleasant. However, it has a little bit of a prepackaged feel to it, lacking to some extent in individuality and personal flair. The difference between FAQ and the many other luncheonettes nearby is slight. The food is certainly healthier though.

I love this lunch joint! Not least of all because it was the only café option when I lived across the road from it a couple of years ago. That aside, I still love it because it is exactly what it claims to be; Fresh and Quick! My favourite things are their fruit salads and the delicious range of fancy pants pie/quiche thingamies and filos. Great for brekky too — as they do a mean ham and cheese croissant. They are definately open on a weekend day — it must be saturday because I’ve been there for a hangover cure. Their bacon and eggs is good but pretty ‘white bread’ basic. Coffee is even pretty good which gives the place mad bonus points and makes up for the fluro green and white interior which makes me get all squinty. I love that their chairs are super comfy and I can cross my legs in them and that they’ve always got a newspaper for me to read.

It’s Fresh… and it’s quick! It’s fresh and quick! It’s … F.A.Q! It took me some time to realise that when my colleagues said ‘go to FAQ’ they were actually referring to a café and not telling me to go to the fax machine. I used to trot down here on lunch breaks on a semi-regular basis and the food is indeed fresh, and served quick. Note this is not a restaurant or a good place for Sunday brunch: This is a work day venue only. My wonderful work mate Chrystal used to order Eggs Benedict in a take-out container, and while I found this weird at the time and told her so repeatedly, the eggs were packaged well and made the trip back to our office in perfect condition. I had a number of wraps, and enjoyed them to the max. The tabouli wrap though: steer clear, enough tabouli to cover a front lawn. FAQ has speedy service, fresh lunches and shiny concrete floors. Fact!
