The place is like alot smaller than other Max Brenner franchises. Its quick packed and probably not suitable for larger groups unless you don’t mind being squished around a tiny table. I ordered a ‘fondue for two’ with my partner. The bananas were bruised and the strawberries still had their tops on. My partner ordered the 80s milk shake and mentioned it wasnt as thick as other Max Brenner’s 80s milk shakes. On the contrary, my American Marshmallow was great and the wait staff were attentive and very friendly.

This is amazing! The peanut better iced chockie is the greatest drink ever! I love the chocolate soufflé and the chocolate brownie. The waffles are good too. The service is fast and effective! I love the dark chocolate hot chocolate! Yummm!

I was really hoping to like it but I just wasn’t that impressed. I tried the dark hot chocolate and the dark chocolate mocha frappé. The hot chocolate was hot as thick or rich tasting as I would have expected. The frappé — while the ice was fine and good(reminiscent of California’s The Coffee Bean frappé), the drink did not feel cohesive and rather like chocolate power blended with ice. Other frappes are more milky I suppose. I might go back to try a Belgian waffle but not their drinks

Max Brenner is alluring with all his chocolatey deliciousness and its long opening hours. Many a time I have come off the ferry and straight to get a chocolate hit. However, now I only really buy tea. Max Brenner is ohsoexpensive, service not great and quality really overrated. They make better handmade waffles down the road at Barefoot Coffee.

While I love Max Brenner, their Manly store isn’t the best in the business. The tables appear a little dirty and the tables and chairs available is minimal. The seating is so close to one another that you can hear other peoples conversations when you are trying to have your own. I much prefer their St. Ives location which is more spacious with efficient service. While the place is always packed, there is room for improvement!

A compulsory pitstop pre Manly ferry is Max Brenner for a takeaway mocha to keep you company on your journey. It’s all about timing. You need to arrive with enough time to line up, collect your order and make the ferry. Nothing worse than than arriving at the wharf with no time to spare to mocha. In fact, I’d even consider missing the ferry in favour of the coffee, because once the habit is formed, it’s sacrilegious to forfeit. I’m a creature of habit for the milk mocha — large. That’s coffee laced with real molten chocolate which leaves a layer or oil film on the top… it’s so bad you know it’s gotta be good. This is almost as indulgent as it gets… Every time I place my mocha order, someone’s eating the waffles. Every single time. Withouth fail. Like some chocolate conspiracy everyone’s in on except me. I still haven’t succumbed — because I can’t eat wheat, but I suggest you do. Warm Belgian waffles drizzled with pure molten chocolate finished with a plump strawberry garnish. $ 5.50 for one. $ 10 for two. Have one for me will you?

«Chocolate by the Bald Man» — what isn’t there to like? Located on the beautiful and scenic Manly Wharf, Max Brenner is the ideal place to sit and watch the ferries come and go, cuddle up on a cold day or just enjoy the obscene amount of chocolate on offer Hot chocolate; chocolate frappes; chocolate waffles; chocolate fondants — the choices are almost endless! For the sweet tooths amongst you, I would thoroughly recommend the Italian hot chocolate, preferably in the milk chocolate flavor. But be warned — upon asking what differentiated an Italian hot chocolate from another, I was informed that it contained cream instead of milk. While I wish I didn’t know that, I still keep going back for more! For those of you who aren’t into chocolate, there are still miles of choices — tea, coffee, fruit shakes are some of your many drinking options. As for food, I’m afraid that somewhere else is probably a better choice… The international staff — amongst the accents I can identify German, French and Italian — are charming, with one Scandinavian import asking my companion if she knew how the chai tea kettle worked! The only problem that I can see with Max Brenner is the space — very popular in the after-dinner timeslot, particularly with kids in their early twenties looking as if on a first date, it’s often difficult to find somewhere to rest your weary bones. On a warm night, nothing beats take away sitting on the wharf outside.

It is worth taking a ferry all the way from Sydney to Manly to experience Max Brenner’s hot chocolate shots. The chilling winds on the ferry, will make you crave for something to hot and chocolatey as soon as you’re ashore. To warm your hands, wrap it around a Hug Mug! My favourite is the Danish Toffee chocolate. The hug mug is so cute, it’s like a small cup without handles. I bought one of the hug mugs they sell in store to enjoy the experience at home too. Another favourite drink to try is the Suckao. They give you the chocolate pods, a burner with a lit candle at the bottom and a straw/mixer to melt the chocolate with a dash of milk. You can add as much or as little chocolate as you want. I definitely add a bit more milk chocolate than my waistline prefers! If you’re not into DIY, try their Chocolate Fondue for two or get your hands on their Chocolate Lick — describes as ‘Your personal pot of pure melted chocolate’ by their website. Truly Divine!
