Very nice little restaurant on Mainly Beach. We had the beef burger and the roasted mushrooms toast and it was excellent! Good meal for a good price, nice staff and lovely view on the sea.

Excellent bacon and egg roll, with the addition of a slightly sweet relish and a delicious aioli. Gabriel’s coffee one of the tastiest I’ve had in Manly

This place is all kinds of fabulous, the service is great. The atmosphere always warm — the decorations will keep you captivated and if that doesn’t work play a board game or read a book! The cocktail list is the perfect way to while away a Sunday afternoon, the wines and beers are also very tasty! Perfect for a date or catch ups with friends and family, my brothers and I love this place

Love everything about this spot. The people are so friendly. The view is gorgeous(especially from the second floor because it has a bit of a library-historic vibe with a breathtaking ocean view) and you’re right across from the beach. The food is filling and tasty. I sometimes find brunch food to be greasy in general but hemingway’s was absolutely perfect — healthy, filling and delicious for all kinds of people. Definitely a must visit brunch spot if you’re coming to Manly.

Nice stop along the beach side of Manly ~ quite small with some outdoor seating options also. Very typical of what you would expect in the name. Lots of books and pics of Earnest. If your staying in grab a seat & they will come to you otherwise take away cue up ! We just had cappuccinos and they were quite quite good. The reason for 4 stars, they move at a beach pace ~ not that it’s a bad thing just be aware

The proximity to the beach is great, and the décor is adorable. Cute books on the wall and quirky art. The food was a bit of a let down. It was super rich and a little too salty for us. The drinks looked nice.

As a regular visitor to Sydney the idea of breakfast on Manly beach always entices me. Sadly this morning I have been very disappointed, actually angry. Treated with disdain from the arrogant waiter we were then served the smallest servings of breakfast for the price! Turns out if you are not a regular you are served less at the same price. When I queried it after talking to the regulate who ordered the same meal next to me the waiter made some poor excuse and made me wait 15 minutes for an extra piece of toast! Lastly, he cleared our table of all our water glasses and re set the table before we had finished. So rude! Don’t bother with this place if you are a visitor, seems you are not welcome!

Pretty whacky place(in a good way). I really like the interior and the exterior of this café. Facing the beach, having a nice cup of chai latte in the sunny morning is definitely a memorable experience. I had the bacon and egg sandwich, it was good and that’s where it stops. Overall it was a pleasant experience.

I defy you not to love this place. I defy you, I say! It’s so close to the beach you could practically spit on a surfer if you saw one you didn’t like the look of, and it’s themed after a writer and the menus are hidden inside books. That’s, like, triple threat territory right there. It’s expensive for what it is, which loses it a star — their signature chicken nuggets and a tea set me back a cool $ 20 and I was still super hungry when I walked out, but portions aside this place is great to kick back with a coffee and watch the world go by or catch up with that really gossipy friend that always as tons of juicy stuff that they couldn’t possibly know but somehow always do, they must be plugged into some dark corner of the internet you don’t know about. The coffee machine closes around 4.30pm on weekends, or it did the day I was there, which was a bummer but is a pretty good excuse to hit the cocktails.

The famous café in Manly. Honestly, this place is good and deserves the reputation. This café won’t change your life, and the coffee is not as good as Shoebox down the road, but worth a visit. Seated on the beach, this place is perfectly situated, and thus very hard to get a table, specifically if you want to sit outside. One thing when it comes to food, order the chicken nuggets. I don’t care what else you feel like, order the chicken nuggets. If you want to order the pulled pork burger, then order it — however, you are also going to order the nuggets to share. So if I’m not clear, the nuggets are awesome, so order them. The coffee is good, but not great. But when they serve 4 Pines on tap you slowly forget about the coffee and order a nice beer, especially with your chicken nuggets. They also have an extensive wine selection, so if you are not in the mood for beer, don’t worry. The staff here are friendly, but sometimes this place is so crowded that service can be a touch slow — but I think that is extremely excusable.

I’ve gone back three times during my visit to Sydney. It’s one of my favorite cafes of all time. The view of the beach from the counter seat is phenomenal. Coffee is good. Service is fab. Food is delicious. It’s a place I’d bring a book to and enjoy with a cup of coffee. FANTASMO.

Gave this place a stop before heading back to Northmead. I’m not really a fan of brekkie(Aussie slang for breakfast) but I’ve seen the good reviews on Unilocal and most of the foodies websites and hence I’m here. Was pretty crowded when I got here around 10.30am and decided to settle in for the indoors facing towards the waters. Was baffled between sourdough or King salmon and hence I got myself the latter. Does this sounds yummy — House smoked New Zealand King salmon, soft eggs, goat curd, crunchy wild rice, pickled cucumbers and cress. The ingredients itself made me tempted to order that. Juice wise — apple, carrot, ginger. Food arrived within 5 minutes. First to taste, the soft eggs. It is the same soft outer cover yet runny orange colored on the inside like the ones you can find at some ramen stores. I was given two eggs and decided to eat the last piece last. The salmon was pretty big and they were extremely fresh! Other ingredients were pretty flavorful. Not sure how to describe as there are quite a few flavors mixed together but great combination. The wild rice was crunchy and it gave a hint of crunchiness in the dish. I asked the server on what juice is popular here as the guava that I wanted was out. Hence he said apple, carrot and ginger juice. He also claimed that it is healthy for me too. I’m not a fan of carrot juice either but this is extremely good! It came in quite a good portion too for the affordable cost — score. As I’m here way before they serve lunch, I asked the server to order chicken nuggets for me too for my drive. I’ve seen good reviews on that dish. Overall, pretty small café like store that serves great food for affordable prices. Do swing by here if you are near Manly beach :)

Had a great night in Hemmingway’s. A superb small bar right on the beach in Manly. We sat and had small plates, beers, wine and cocktails over the course of 4 hours and was very suprised how reasonable the bill was. Lovely service, prompt food and the bar tenders mixed a mean old fashioned. Kale salad, kingfish tartare and an excellent burger were very very good. Check it out, best spot in Manly.

I had high expectations of this place, based on reviews and and on a riends recommendation. I’d give it 3 ½ if I could. The coffee was ok to good, but not great. I had the smoked salmon, goats cheese, and poached eggs, with crunchy rice. I thought it was very nice. But my partner had the beans, eggs, and chorizo dish. The beans lacked seasoning, and I find the Heinz packets from the shop to taste better. Being new to the North Side, I need to explore a bit more before I pick my favourite local café for weekend breakfast, so I can’t decide if I’d choose Hemingways over any place else.

Does it get much better than a really well made coffee by the beach. Nope. Didn’t think so. This place has book lined shelves and homey wooden furniture which makes you feel like your hanging out in your hip aunties place. This is my favourite breakfast spot– don’t go there expecting anything fancy but avo on sourdough toast with micro herbs and amazing coffee will cost you $ 10 which with beautiful beach views, you can’t complain.

For some reason I thought this place was much further away from the Corso, so I ended up walking straight past it, doubled back and went inside. Staff were super friendly and attentive. I ordered the bacon and egg roll which was huge! It had heaps of bacon, 2x eggs and a tasty relish, bloody good value for $ 12! Only criticism was there was a little too much aioli on the roll — maybe request the aioli on the side? Washed down with 2 coffees for a total of $ 19. Happy days!

Trying this place for lunch for the first time. Great burgers, and one of the finest views of the surf. Cocktail hour is awesome — I’ve done that before… It’s a top spot in winter, just a discerning local crowd. Easy gathering point, everyone local knows it, even if they haven’t been there. Go there before it changes hands or folds or something — although it has lasted longer, so far, than most.

This is an adorable little café right across from Manly beach. It’s the perfect place to meet friends for a coffee. The food is ok but definitely not a great spot for breakfast/brunch. The space is too small and the options are limited due to a small kitchen. They don’t make scrambled eggs and most options are pretty plain jane. Best to just go for drinks and nibbles.

I went here off the back of Unilocal reviews alone. And I’m glad that they were all spot on. Great atmosphere as soon as you enter. The window boxes and the seating outside was taken so we sat on an elevated table with stools that looked out the front doors onto Manly beach. The lunches were really well sized for the price. They also continued the chilled vibe of the place; burger was served in a basket half wrapped, barramundi served on a flat tray with paper atop. Not too fussy to handle, and suited to the beachside venue. Beers were priced fairly well. I tried a 4 Pines Kolsch which was really good. Sadly most of their tap options weren’t available the day we went. The staff didn’t push us through even though they were fairly busy. They were friendly and quick to seat us and provide table water otherwise. One small note, they stopped serving coffee at 3pm, 5 – 6 people left when advised this. Barefoot coffee are still serving up coffee well past this time just around the corner. Missed opportunity for Hemingways on quieter days in my opinion. A great beachside lunch/coffee/dinner/drinks spot otherwise. So versatile and relaxing. I didn’t see anything else like it while in Manly. Recommended.

Charm, charm, charm, charm, charm. It’s oozing here — so much so that you nearly forget you’re across the street from one of the world’s finest beaches and that there’s a strong likelihood you’ll see as many dolphins as surfers. No matter how many times I come to Manly eager to try a new spot, the Hemingway pull is too strong. Also, don’t miss the nuggets. Take it from me — a lady who rejects all things nug nug, no matter how drunk she is — these plump and juicy morsels will turn anyone. Plus, they’re $ 5 at happy hour, along with $ 5 house wines and beers. Really, there’s no other choice. Hemingway’s it is. p. s. Come to Bondi! Please?
