You look inside. Warm wood tables and floors invite you into this grocer slash café slash meeting place. You stare at the menu. Everything is emphasised organic. Yet the dish description does not inspire much. We order the spicy beans and frittatta. Sweet more than spicy beans. Frittatta navigates a happy medium, not wow, not bleh. The coffee! Such small cups you almost forget about them. But flavour is ok. Kitchen closes earlier than the shop, if you decide to visit keep this in mind. Will I return? Nah, I’ve had lots better for a more reasonable price.

When my fellow Unilocalist, Bridie W, suggested Nature’s Providore as a likely lunch spot and gave me directions, I thought, «that must be close to where that Doof Doof place is». A quick check of Unilocal revealed it was indeed once the very same. I’d only been once but it had the distinction of furnishing me with the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had. So much so, I smashed it and instantly ordered another, spending the rest of the day in a caffeine-fuelled twitchathon. Good times. Anyway, that aside, I rolled in with toddler in tow and was directed into the dining area through the retail shop front selling all manner of seasonal organic produce and health stuff. A high chair was ready and waiting however it was quickly discovered we needed to take care of some urgent business and I asked for directions to the toilet. Unfortunately, that rustic vintage charm extended to the singular outside dunny with no facility to perform a nappy changing exercise. Oh well, that’s why you carry a change mat in the nappy bag. At least the floor wasn’t muddy. That taken care of, we returned to select the special, avocado on rye toast with all manner of seedy things atop it($ 15.90) and some fruit toast for the newly clean and fragrant toddler. The avo was ripe and heightened by the lemon provided and the fruit toast was like hot cross bun in bread form, even if the toddler did seem to prefer chunks of raw lemon. We stuck with water but the selection of juices looked appetising and if I’m in the vicinity again, I will be trying the apple, lemon and ginger as a matter of priority. Nature certainly provides(and sometimes calls) here at Nature’s Providore.

A really lovely little café/organic store. There’s fruit and veg, cookbooks, and super foods all available for purchase as soon as you walk in and a tempting cabinet of cakes and take away food options. I was offered a table and a menu and the best thing of all: table service at a café. The staff are incredibly friendly and after enquiring about my dietary requirements I found out they actually have two different types of gluten free bread on offer(yay!). My latte with coconut milk was incredibly creamy and delicious. The coffee was strong but the coffee and coconut didn’t clash which I think is partly due to the fact they use Coco Quench which is a really nice milk option. Today I tried the slow-cooked spicy beans with gluten free toast and whipped butter. The feta in the beans as well as the butter came from the Paris Creek farm and you could really taste the spice in the beans. The baby spinach that was added to the stew at the last minute(I think, the green colouring was still vivid) and was just a perfect addition. My dish was served on a bread board with the stew in a little, rustic pot and it was the sort of wholesome, nourishing food that just makes one excited. Really lovely with high quality produce evident. My only wish would be that the beans had been in the slower cooker just that little bit longer, some of the larger one where just on the edge of melt-in-your-mouth glory. They came pretty close though to perfect though! One of the highlights is the standard gluten free toast(although I’d love to try the buckwheat option too). It tastes so close to real bread that Nature’s Providore is one of the only places I don’t mind paying extra for bread for my medical needs(I’ve never understood why a place would ask for $ 1 – 3.50 extra for a poor tasting product) and it’s a little cheaper than some other cafes with a worse product. Prices are a little higher than a standard café but given how organic the produce is and how attentive the staff are it’s not really a problem.

I finally decided to try Doof Doof(because well they know food backwards) and when Google Maps suggested we arrived at our destination we were a bit puzzled turns out it’s now«Natures Providore» with new owners. All the Earth loving, green juice drinking and chia seed munching people of Adelaide will be jumping for joy! It’s mainly a café but also has a selection of health foods along with organic fruit & veggies. I must stress that this isn’t where you would go for a traditional greasy hangover cure big breakfast but if you are looking for a trendy guilt free breakfast place which isn’t laden with calories then you’d love it. They have an extensive cold pressed juice menu — I loved my orange & ruby grapefruit(insider tip aren’t on the menu but up on an inconspicuous chalkboard) and the French Toast was to die for namely because of the amazing berry sauce/jam — if you have a sweet tooth then this is for you. My partner had the seasonal breakfast with bacon and although enjoyable overall the bacon seemed to be boiled not fried which he didn’t particularly love. The service was friendly and it’s table service which is always a lovely touch and seems to be a long lost art these days. There was no outrageous line on a Sunday morning at 10am which is good — it is quite a large space. It left me feeling all zen and healthy post breakfast and can’t wait to come again. Namaste.

Awesome brunch and great table service. Food was so so yummy and I loved not having to go up to the counter to order. All the staff were really friendly

Food food and some to take home at Doof Doof! I’ve had two recent visits to Doof Doof and have been particularly impressed with the outstanding and unexpected customer service. A family business with Mum and Dad doing front of house and sons cheffing and waiting. On both occasions the café was full however mein host made every attempt to ask people to share tables, squeezing us in and ensured we stuck around for a table when it became available. After an initial coffee visit(which was excellent) we then went back for food. I had a beautifully full flavoured vegie tart with more than a passing nod to French inspired buttery, melt in the mouth pastry base with a light savoury custard filling. Accompanied by a simply dressed green salad this perfect dish was excellent value and brilliantly executed. The sour dough bread toast and Paris Creek BD whipped butter and jam, seeded muesli and the veggie burger were also rated highly by my fellow diners. We all enjoyed a freshly squeezed zingy ginger and carrot juice and at least 2 rounds of coffee. We were then tempted by bite size organic desserts –obviously being organic justifies including desserts for brunch. I can’t wait to try their seasonal breakfast offerings next time and the soup of the day looked and smelt amazing. Well priced, relaxing vibe and excellent table and customer service make a sure fire winner. PS You can also buy the gorgeous sour dough + organic produce to take home!

A café that recognises the value of table service is never underrated. To know that you can sit and while away the hours talking to friends without having to keep an eye out for a break in the line to order at the counter is a blessing and an easy way to up sell that«do you want another coffee?» A simple menu of seasonal, organic produce gives you a pick of eggs, muesli and toast for breakfast. And they are serious when they say organic and seasonal because avocados and tomatoes«weren’t in season» when we went. But there was still plenty of mushrooms, spinach, sweet potato rosti and beetroot relish to fill up my plate of sourdough rye toast and poached eggs. The coffee is lovely here but unfortunately they don’t use Bonsoy. And the Just Brewed green tea on the menu is most heavenly and light green tea I have ever tasted. Prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality of food, table service and size of meals and I’m now planning my next trip back for lunch and an excuse to meet over tea and dessert!
