Blink 138

Blink 138 is a seriously funky optician. The glasses there are at the cutting edge of fashion, with some designs not available anywhere else. The staff are equally funky and are also happy to help pick the perfect design to compliment your face.
However, Blink 138 is also ridiculously pricey, putting the frames out of reach for all but well-​heeled yuppies and cashed-​up bogans with aspirations of climbing the social ladder. Which is a shame, because their items are great.

Although I haven’t gone back to an optician since I got my first pair of glasses a few years ago (yes I’m putting this off) when I saw the fabulous glasses displayed in Blink 138 I was a little excited of the prospect of going back and getting a cool, new and funky pair of glasses.
What really drew me in was a girl walking out the door with an über cool pair of rounder wayfarer looking glasses in a dark green, and I thought to myself if I can pull off statement glasses like that maybe it’s time to go see the lovely options. Unfortunately all my hopes and excitement slowly dissipated when I started trying these cool vintage and «nerdy» inspired glasses they didn’t suit me at all and I looked more like a weird Harry Potter fan than the cool girl who walked out the shop a few minutes before.
This is truly a great place to come if you are looking for statement glasses that are different from everything that you’re used to but you do have to have the cool and stylish attitude to go with it that I clearly don’t have — just a bit sad right now.

If you need glasses don’t be a lemming and go to the big chain stores. Go somewhere funky and cool. The décor is young and funky. Their glasses are not for your mother or librarian. They have spunk and personality. So do the staff that work here. They know their stuff about short-​sighted, long-​sighted blah blah blah. But they will spend time to get to know you and find the right pair of glasses. They are also honest and will tell you if the style or shape of glasses you are drooling over don’t work for you.. Looking for something different, this is the place to go.

This place is amazing. I have been wearing glasses since I was 10 so for half of my life basically, and every time I needed new glasses mum would take me to one of the standard, Spec Savers or OPSM store. So I would be stuck with mickey mouse glasses or square cut black ones. Nothing special at all and I used to hate wearing glasses.
When I found this place I was ecstatic, it was so cute looking and the range of cool glasses was out of this world. I had to buy some straight away, and now it wasn’t that cheap but my god, these glasses are so much cooler than the standard frames I was getting from Spec Savers.

I’ve seen these guys’ ad campaigns appearing regularly in the queer street press and I must say they have a very big sense of humour. Their latest ad features a tortured tranny in the middle of shaving, complete with cheap wig, smudged lipstick and showgirl frock, with the only real decent thing standing out being her spectacles on her face. The store itself is much less messy, in fact rather slick.
Blink 138 (not to be confused with the rock band Blink 182) stock a vast array of eyewear including Chrome Hearts spectacles, Cazal sunglasses, and Theo Eyewear from Belgium. They also boast an amazing collection of original 1980s sunnies so you can get all Corey Hart «I Wear My Sunglasses At Night» on your next night out to The Court or Connections.
Well, okay, they like to serve straight people, too.

This place is mad!; a treasure trove of cutting edge and crazy-​cool vintage shades. Every pair is awesomely unique and guaranteed to make a statement.
Blink 138 had totally slipped under my radar for so many years. I automatically blanked it like I do all opticians as a means to funky eyewear. I’m not long or short-​sighted, so any shop marked ‘Optician’ is generally stamped out in my brain as ‘null and void’. It was not until one day while walking down Oxford St, some super rad sunglasses in the shop window caught my eye.
Inside I found an impressive collection of oversized vintage Dior sunglasses; Nicole Richie eat your heart out! Designer eyewear from the 60s to the 80s, contrast next to modern designs including hip-​hop superstar label; Cazal. Blink 138 also now have their very own line of spectacles. They’re extremely cool and have got my wishing I suffered from myopia.

This really isn’t your usual stiff optician’s office. Blink 138 is the best optometrist/​glasses store in Perth (and maybe the world) for two reasons:
1) The name — absolutely genius. Located on 138 Oxford Street, they’re all about eyes, eyes blink — put them together, Blink + 138, and it rings bells because it’s similar to the name of a punk pop band. Fantastic!
2) The glasses — there’s nothing run-​of-​the-​mill about the choice of glasses in here. Whoever said only nerds wear glasses were wrong, these beauties are clearly aimed at the popular crowd. And being in Leederville that means the hipster crowd. Every pair of frames in here is unique. You’ll see a lot of think rimmed frames, bright colours, unusual shapes. You’re bound to find one that will not only look good, but will actually make your whole face look cooler!
