Angas Plains Estate is a scenic fifty minute drive South East from Adelaide (via the Mt Barker turnoff to Strathalbyn, then just off the main Langhorne Creek Road).

Langhorne Creek is the second largest grape growing district in South Australia which, although long established (commencing in 1852), has grown rapidly over the past twenty years. It is well recognised for the production of exceptional, full bodied red wines with soft tannins, and crisp fresh white wines.

History

Established in 1994.

Angas Plains Wines is a company established in 1994 by co-directors Phillip and Judy Cross. The company’s aim is to produce wines from grapes grown on the property and intends to develop a select niche market for Angas Plains Estate’s wines.

Phillip Cross is the fifth generation in South Australia with his great, great grandfather Phillip Cross sailing from England on the Amazon in 1856. On arriving at Belvidere (small area adjoining Langhorne Creek) he camped on the banks of the Angas River and used the mud to produce Belvidere’s once famous brick at the Brickworks.

Phillip’s grew up on his parent’s mixed farm in the Angas Plains /Belvidere district and like many othr young people went off to study at University in Adelaide.

However, he could never really leave the land he loved so he returned to buy his farm and home in the district. and to develop his beloved vineyard with his wife Judy.

Together they have built Angas Plains Estate and develop it further each year.

Business Owner

Judy Cross loves food & wine and shares her passion with others when they visit Angas Plains Estate Wines cellar door.

Judy loves cooking and has developed a range of produce which is sold under the PJ’s brand, including PJ’s Cabernet Crush.

Made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes that make fine wine, Judy has developed the crush which is awesome on scones with a dollop of cream. Or on a cheese baord with some nice ripe brie.
