There seems to be no shortage of chocolate stores in my area(a blessing that I acknowledge every day). But certain stores stand out more than others for their service, coffee, hot chocolates and of course — chocolate-making skills. Xocolatl ticks all those boxes comfortably. There are two stores in the Eastern suburbs: Maling Road and Kew East. I frequent the Kew East store for their excellent hot chocolate. A variety of flavours including Spanish(cinnamon and vanilla), orange, chilli, and rose, these hot chocolates are simply amazing. They taste rich and creamy, and the flavours are all very subtle. Served in a warm cup with chocolate shavings on top I rarely go past one. They also make great take away pick me ups, but loose their charm in a take away container. The chocolates are fabulous too. Combinations like Gorgonzola, champagne, mango and passion fruit stand alongside the usual crowd pleasers like hazelnut, cheery and mint. I recommend getting a few, including some of the more bizarre flavours. Put your taste buds to the test. The service is always great, although I do notice a difference in the quality of the hot chocolate depending who makes it. But you can put that aside because its still better than most other venues.
