Niel Hawkins Park, for me started as a tourist thing. When any family comes stay with us in Perth, we are bound to have a picnic here. It is a perfect place for it, right next to Lake Joondalup, there is a playground for the kids, an amazing walking trail, going through the pines and all running along the lake. It really is beautiful. What I used to love about the park, before I got attacked by a magpie and scared of birds for life, was feeding the birds. You are able to hold out your hands full with seeds and birds will land on you and eat from your hands. And by ‘birds’ I mean parrots and pink galas, now the pink galas arent as keen to land on you but they will eat from your hand on the floor. The parrots however, will land anywhere, even on your head if you put seeds on it and stand still. The park has a lot of nature and different animals. If you head there at dusk you will most likely see a bouncy friend :) kangaroos love the places and guess what, so do I!
