The station is well maintained and frequently serviced by trains in both directions as it is a major stop on this line. The area outside the station however can be a little sketchy with there often being a group of youths hanging around yelling at each other. It is a shame as the area has come a long way since the station first opened up and there are many more opportunities available to find things to eat and drink but I tend to not want to remain in the surrounding area longer than I have to. Parking is also still a nightmare on week days if you arrive late in the peak rush or afterwards throughout the day. Catch the bus here if you can to save yourself the stress of trying to find parking.

Hello Cockburn Central Train Station. Haven’t you come a long way? This outpost in the middle of what was a semi-industrial wasteland is now a transport hub with a bus terminal with connecting buses to local areas including Cockburn Gateway Shopping Centre which is a 10 minute leisurely stroll away. The car park mess has finally been sorted. The $ 2 a day parking charge has cleared out the people who drove here to exploit the free parking on their way into the city. There’s even an overflow parking area at a 5 minute walk away from the station. There may not be a deli inside the train station but there are plenty of eateries to choose from nearby as well as a hole in the wall café to boot. Just 2 minutes walk away. All this crazy walking huh? It’s good for you especially in the relaxed atmosphere around Cockburn Central. While you might not«Find 30»,(or is it 60 now?), this train station will get you to where you need to be. If that’s not enough in case you find yourself in between transport, free WiFi is on its way in the near future. For the locals it is a wonderful little transport hub as it is a quick ride into the city and back out after frivolities or intense shopping sessions. Excited to see what other shops open in and around Cockburn Central with all the new buildings being built at the moment.

This is probably a joint criticism for Transperth and the Council, but I think it’s safe to say the parking issues are out of control here. It’s perfectly delightful during the Christmas period as people start taking holidays and hence freeing up lots more bays, but by February/March it’s truly wretched by 8am or even earlier. Thinking of parking in a makeshift spot where loads of others do, along the side of the road that runs parallel to the big long stretch of carpark leading up to the station? Don’t do it. Last time I checked it stated no parking and they’re true to their word, although it’s pretty mean and wasteful of valuable space, needless to say. Unless you’re very lucky, the Council will slug you $ 100 fines for taking up a patch of sand, because apparently you’re encroaching on business properties or some such rubbish. That’s right, $ 100 for a few metres of sand outside a fenced area that, let’s face it, you can bet that no one from those businesses would ordinarily use. And don’t bother trying to appeal it, the rangers will be snarky no matter how well you can argue your case. Transperth have tried to create enough spaces but Perth is getting far too populated, and they will need to add way more capacity to their parking if they want to keep up with it. Very glad I live close to an inner city bus service now. The outer southern ‘burbs suck for station parking!
