I’ve been to Mash a few times for lunch with big groups and have always been happy with the down to earth staff and high class pub food on offer. Prices are reasonable and beer is brewed on premises(they also sell Swan Valley wine). The place has a bit of a cool warehouse feel and I love that you can actually see the beer vats. My only complaint is as it is actually in a shed the ventilation isn’t the best. Not where I’d want to be on a super humid day.

I am a massive fan of Mash beers however the brewery was a little underwhelming. A pint of Russel(my favourite Mash brew) was $ 14, you would think if you are going to the source it would be a little cheaper. The food was pretty good. My friend and I ordered a bunch of bar bites to share. The tacos were a bit dry and the stuffed mushrooms turned out to be deep fried and weren’t that great. The service was fantastic and our waitress did a great job! We weren’t left waiting for anything and she was very attentive. Don’t let this put you off Mash however because they do have such great beer and cider! Any fans of Amber Ale should definitely give the Russel a try. The Copy Cat IPA is a whopping 6.8% if you are looking for a tasty beer to take the edge off. The Crush cider is not very sweet so if you are a somersby fan it is not the cider for you.

Mash Brewery were ever so kind to squeeze in our large group at the last minute with no booking on the same day as the Swan Valley’s Octoberfest event! The server we had one the day was a fantastic guy who I didn’t manage to get the name of unfortunately but he impressed the entire group with his friendly and funny attitude all while dealing with an unforeseen table of 20 during the middle of a Saturday lunch. While looking over the drinks menu I decided on ordering a glass of Sittella’s Sparkling Chenin Blanc($ 9.50) as I have been meaning to try this wine for far too long and it turned out to be a very nice drop! Once the wine was sorted I then had to pick a dish to go with it, I ended up choosing the Market Fish of the Day($ 32) which was salmon that day and came with potatoes, asparagus and other roasted vegetables. The meal was presented well and the portion was just enough to fill me up. Also worth noting is the speed at which the kitchen turned around our entire tables meals with good presentation was highly commendable! I really enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere of Mash Brewery. After seeing some of the other dishes that people ordered, especially the pies and steak sandwiches I an convinced that I will have to return to try them. I would happily return on a quieter day to have another meal and a better look at their beers and ciders.

Went to Mash for an afternoon catchup with friends, we ordered 2 share platters between 6 starving mouths and couldn’t finish them. They were amazing! Ordering was quick and they only took 15 mins to start bringing out our food. We thoroughly enjoyed our arvo at Mash

Great new Double IPA that I really enjoyed, super fruity and not too bitter. It’s annoying they have a restaurant license though, and not a bar license(I’m guessing not their fault), as you have to find a seat before you order, as you cant buy beer«over the bar». At a brewery. It’s just an annoying thing they have to abide by. We ate some wings which were good though I’m sure the sauce came from a packet. Tasted ok, but packet-y. Service was inconsistent, we were served by a friendly pink haired girl at first, but once we were seated we were pretty much ignored until my bf went up and got someone so we could order. Beers can be ordered in «tiny» sizes so you can make up your own tasting paddle if you’re keen, as well as pints. Décor/fit out is casual and a bit tired, looks a bit like a local fish n chip shop where the outside tables are, inside is a bit nicer though. It’s a shame, they have some great beers, but the place needs some TLC to bring it up to scratch.

Great brewery, the craft beers are nice and they always bringing out new ones as well as keeping the favourites on the menu. We have found ourselves waiting for meals for upto an hour to get to the table once ordered. And the menu was better than the current version they had when we visited today. Bit disappointing. Would book a table if u were coming as a group or during peak time on weekends to avoid getting turned away.

A little disappointed. Let me start off with that the beers are amazing! Taste is great and I nice variety. The waitress did not have a knowledge of beer and was unable to answer some of a questions. We then had to wait 30mins to order. Once our order had been taken we had to wait 40mins. Once our food came out we were further disappointed. I ordered the salmon dish and the salmon was overcooked and my partner purchased the pie and wedges. When his came out he got chips instead. We asked why this was the case and we were told that they had run out of wedges. Because of this mistake they said they would not charge us for the pie which was a bonus. So overall, a great place for a beer and socialize but not for a meal.

I unfortunately wasn’t a fan of Mash. And, that is based on all accounts — beer and the environment. It seemed like a hot spot for scantily clad 18-year-olds and families with kids — neither are my vibe. And, those vibes seem to contradict one another, huh? They don’t have free tastings like many of the Swan Valley places. We did a paid tasting and among 3 people, only one of the beers(out of six) remotely interested us. Lastly, if you want to do a group outing(like a bachelor party), call head and reserve as you won’t have a table/be waited on.

Myself and a small group of friends decided to take ourselves on a self guided cycling tour of the breweries in the Swan Valley. Our first stop after 12kms was Mash. Upon entering we were surprised to see they supported cycling by having Mash cycling jerseys for sale yet there were no bicycle facilities for us to lock up at… until we looked out the other door, saw a bike rack right outside and realised we’d used the non bike friendly entrance! To me the venue seemed a bit sterile and industrial. They had pretty hideous top 40 rnb commercial music playing(urgh) and they don’t offer any beer tasting sets. I tried a pot(pretty sure it was a pot — it was definitely smaller than a middy) of the Russel American Amber Ale for the pricey sum of $ 6. Not a bad beer but it was pretty expensive. We didn’t hang around to try any food or more drinks, instead opting to move on quickly to the next venue which proved much better!

A very average experience! I know that on a Saturday afternoon in the Swan Valley one would expect quite a number of tourists and the like. but busloads of them were dumped on Mash’s doorsteps — and with it came exactly what you would expect after a day of wine tasting on a hot day. The wait staff were running around simply unable to cope — which resulted in poor and sometimes rude service. The food — very average. Salt and pepper squid was rubbery and smothered with terible tasting aioli. More like a squid and aioli stew really. The steak sandwich looked good on arrival but tasted like it should be worth $ 10 rather than the $ 20+ that it actually costs. The only thing going for it is the specialist beers that Mash brews up. Other than that, I couldn’t get out of there quick enough.

We had a table booked for 25 on a Friday night. Quite disappointed with service as they appeared to be short staffed and they kept mixing up our drink and food orders. Some orders came out nearly 30 minutes apart from others, so we couldn’t exactly eat as a group. Beer is ok. Had to split the bill because the ATM machine was out of service. They look to be renovating and expanding so this problem could be ongoing for a while if they’re not careful. It’s a shame.

Surly service, even on a quiet day where we were one of only three occupied tables. Staff seemed miserable. We could see into the kitchen, including an unpleasant view of a member of the wait staff eating chips off a plate — not sure if it was food that was about to go out or from a plate that had previously been eaten from by a customer. Either way, off-putting! Food was below average.

We came here after a long day of touristy activities so we were starving! I had to try the Roo fillet since one of our goals in visiting Australia was to try kangaroo meat. It was quite delicious! A little tougher than beef, but it was very tasty and the carrots and potatoes on the side were good as well. My husband and I rarely drink alcohol, but our cousin said we had to at least try their ciders so we ordered an apple cider and a pear cider. They were both light and refreshing. The service was fast, but you don’t get as much food as you would in the US for the same amount of money. That seemed to be the standard wherever we travelled in WA and NSW. We left satisfied, but with enough room for dessert so we headed over to the Margaret River Chocolate Company… :D

Mash Brewing is one of the newer breweries in the Swan Valley, with a funky modern décor and a sharp sense of humour. In terms of beer, Mash has quite a few beers on tap. Their lagers are nothing to write about, being bland and without many qualities to differentiate between each beer — it almost seemed like Mash had made identical beers but gave them different names. Their ale, on the other hand, is a splendid example of a finely brewed ale, with rich, roasted flavours and a sharp aftertaste. The food at Mash is excellent and reasonably priced. The hand-cut chips are lovely and golden, with a crisp outer and a soft insides. Mash is worth a visit for their food. In term of their beer, however, there are better breweries in the Swan Valley.
