Good fish and good chips. The batter on the fish was above average. The wait time was long… But you get that at goof places.

This family owned, unassuming looking fish and chip shop has got all the locals(and savvy townies) swooning at the fresh selection of seafood, burgers and salads available for take away. Please note that you are paying extra for quality bites here and like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears size does matter… No wait, portion control is important… Well just order more than you think of everything except sides. $ 8.50 per piece of King George Whiting fried + 50c to have it done grilled in lemon pepper dressing isn’t quite the cheap Sunday night takeaway we were expecting. However, the fish was incredibly well cooked(still tender) and seasoned with a tangy oregano and lemon pepper dressing. I also enjoyed the juiciest lemon pepper calamari rings but order double what you think you can handle as when they’re not battered they are only half size. Chips were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and a small serving is plenty for 2. The service is incredibly quick and friendly, they even know the locals by the first name. The shop doesn’t have that caked in 30 years of grease feel and is clean with a well laid out menu. This would have to be one of Adelaide’s best and hidden F&C shops. Walk an extra block away from the beach and hop, skip and jump your way back to enjoy fish you’ll think was freshly caught from the sea that day.

The Stunned Mullet offers gourmet fish and chips at its best in a really great beachside location. First of all, the prices are higher, but you are paying for quality which you wouldn’t get in a daggy fish and chip shop. A piece of fish and chips would probably set you back around $ 12 which is quite a lot, but considering you would pay twice that in a restaurant with the same quality food, it is probably quite a bargain. The shop is clean and new and the display cabinets full of fresh and frozen seafood always look appetising. With Greek owners a lot of their food is influenced by the culture, but it does still offer the same traditional fish and chip favourites, but with more care and detail than other takeaway places. This includes a range of greek salads and my favourite BAKLAVA! The rumours must be true about this place, as I recently heard a couple who were standing in line at another Fish and Chip place say«well it won’t be anything like The Stunned Mullet but let’s give it a try».

This place is great, tucked just off Heley beach road, right down near the beach you would probably miss it if you didn’t know to look for it. It straddles the divide between high quality standard fish and chip shop fare and fancy, gourmet stuff which has become trendy recently. It’s prices are in between also, so you won’t have to blow your budget to grab some take away on the way home from the beach. Highlights for me have included the fish burger, and Atlantic Salmon fillet and chips(remember to order a salad too if you like your greens) and the roast vegetable wrap. Vegos will find something tasty here too, which is always a plus and the staff have a great sense of humour. As with all fish and chip shops, sometimes you’ll have to wait a while for your order but they are such a slick operation and you can see them working so hard you won’t mind at all.
