Rude service can be tolerated if the phở is good. However with the quality of the food going down they have to be courteous with the customers. Would not come back again to this establishment. I will put up with your rudeness and customer contempt if your food is good. There are many good exciting places to eat lunch around phở pasteur in sydney. They may be the best in saigon but they are certainly not the best in sydney in 2016. Grow up phở pasteur. You are losing customers. I m one of those leaving your establishment.

Although I don’t believe this place to have the best phở, it’s somewhere I don’t mind being a repeat customer of. Perhaps it’s because I remember my first time here nearly 20 years ago and the floors were soooo slippery that I nearly slipped over. It was end of the night. So it’s abt scooping the soup into the bowl and delivering it to the table. With spillage along the way. I do find it a tad on the pricey side. They make the soup for the beef phở daily. So once that runs out, you will have to order something else.

Portions are large and the beef slices + tendons are nice and tender. I would come back but for $ 14, my money could be better spent elsewhere on most days

Phở here is good. Everything else mediocre so far. Will come back and try more items before giving it a more accurate review.

The selection of Vietnamese food was very limited. The food was okay. I had the seafood noodle soup and it was a decent amount of seafood in it and the portion was great. I tried my friends Bun Bo Hue(Spicy beef noodle soup) and it did not taste anything like it should have. The flavour was bland, the soup wasn’t the right color and it was flat overall. If you want really good Vietnamese food, I suggest making a trip to Cabramatta — the heart of Vietnamese food.

A big lover of Vietnamese food, I ended at Pasteur when I was actually going to the next door phở place, based on online reviews. When I got to the door it was very easy to see that Pasteur was packed, 100% Asian crowd, which to me is always a good sign. Next door as also an Asian crowd, just not as many ppl. This time, I was fooled though. Ordered a small beef soup($ 12AUD), and the shrimp fresh roll($ 8 for 3 large ones!). Off the bat, the bean sprouts didn’t look too fresh, which is weird for a place that rolls through many ppl every day. The soup was piled way too high with overcooked, thick noodles, not enough broth, and the beef was thoroughly cooked instead of raw. The broth flavor was nothing special. The rice paper rolls were nice and very fresh, the rice paper was super moist. This came with a peanut dipping sauce — it was not so good, just ok. The fish sauce on the table was mixed with soy, making it way too salty. Skip that one! Bottom line, this place is ok. Not something you’d remember or come back for. Will try the next door spot as well… This area has many Asian places to choose from but unfortunately, it’s almost weird that none are great. Place only accepts cash. Service is just normal as well, except for the guy at the cash who is super nice and helpful.

Caveat straight-up: I’m a vegetarian. No meat, no fish, no meat-related stock/broth. If you’re looking for an intimate dining experience with achingly polite service then keep walking past this place. If you’re after a decent feed at a cheap price then Pasteur will see you right. When I told a mate where I was going for lunch today he commented on how the staff either love you or hate you, then went on to say that one of the beef dishes is the best he’s ever had. I always opt for the vermicelli salad with vegetarian spring rolls and ask for the peanut sauce in lieu of fish sauce; it’s $ 11 and pretty great. They’ll bring you a pot of green(?) tea with the menus, which I love. Turnover is pretty quick and if you’re seated down the back it has a very cafeteria feel to it, and staff can be a bit shout-y(to each other) but I’ve never found them to be rude; in fact some of them are downright sweet and I once had a very long conversation at the register about vegetarianism. I’ve brought a number of different people here over the years since a friend turned me onto the place and never had a complaint. Cash only, but there are ATMs nearby(it’s George Street).

Phở place on George Street that has been there for as long as I can remember. I guess it passes muster if you’re looking for a quick bowl of beef phở around the city but it doesn’t compare to Sydney benchmark’s out in the suburbs of Bankstown and Cabramatta. The prices are the same as the shops out in the suburbs but I feel like you actually get less for your money … probably the higher CBD rent factor?

Visited this place based on Unilocal reviews. The special beef rice noodle was tasty! If you are looking for thick slabs of beef, this is not the place. But the soup was delicious and beef was done just medium-well. The décor of this place is very basic so don’t expect anything fancy but a good place to go if you just want to get a decent quick meal.

I’ve had decent phở’s here before, but tried a rice vermicelli dish with weird shrimp cakes on a bamboo stick and wasn’t impressed. Went to Pitt St for some thai food immediately after and was delighted with real flavor.

Décor and service is basic and the wait for food is typically short. Phở does the job but the crispy skin chicken is cracktastic.

Moved here to Sydney from California about 1.5 months ago so I know a thing or two about good phở and this place is terrible! My second time having phở in Sydney and I just don’t understand why they can’t get the correct ingredients since Oz is so close to the motherland of Vietnam. PHOTAI(Rare Beef):(2 stars) Broth — full of MSG and fat… Noodles — disintegrates immediately when you pick it up with your chopsticks… Rare Beef(Tai) — Ugh! Australia is supposed to have quality meat, what the heck is this… Sauce — Hoisin Sauce was watered down… Vegetables — not fresh at all! BUNTHITNUONGCHAGIO(Vermicelli Noodle w/BBQ Pork & Eggrolls):(3.5 stars) The one saving grace at this place. Large portion and fresh ingredients! Your standard Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio, so not much else to say about that.

One the good place to have Vietnamese food right in the middle of the city. The taste and smell of Phở soup is quite similar to my hometown. Price is average-high. Worth trying and may come back again with the convenience of location

Grew up with a Cambodian mother and a Vietnamese dad so I know what authentic South-East Asian dishes should taste like. Homesick during a 3 month stay in Canberra, AU — I decided to venture out for some South-East Asian comfort food. Phở — most places lack the essential ingredient of ox-tail. And most do not even let the broth stew overnight. Most places I’ve tried in Australia lack a flavorful broth and you must rely on hot sauce(Sriracha)/hosin sauce/and lime wedges to have a decent bowl. This place was one of them. The appetizers somewhat made up for the lack of a flavorful brother. It is enough to get by but definitely not a suitable replacement for good authentic phở.

Ate here a few days ago on the recommendation of a friend. Cheap and cheerful. The meals were super tasty. Service was minimal but good. We got our meals before we got our drinks which was quite unusual, but hey. I got the«special beef» phở, the broth was clear and very flavourful, I also had beef, tripe, tendon & beef balls, all of which was yum and I could have devoured twice the amount. The noodles were plentiful as well. My dining buddy got a spring roll vermicelli which she assured me was delicious as well. The restaurant is nothing to write home about. scarcely decorated if you can even call it that. but the food warrants a visit!

Packed to the gunwales, everyone slurping and chatting and living lives that just got a little(or a lot) better simply because of where they went for lunch. It’s THAT good. Light yet rich and flavoursome, fresh aniseedy Vietnamese mint, chilli heat, sweet broth. Simple, but nothing else was going to satisfy me today, nothing.

I decided to come here on a whim not really expecting much at all, but wow was I surprised. Tried the Phở Ga Noodle Soup and it was absolutely amazing, one of the best that I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve been to many Vietnamese restaurants over the years. It’s kind of a small restaurant but wouldn’t really consider it a hole-in-the-wall as there is still some space to move about. The service is exactly what you would expect at a restaurant like this, so no real surprises there. The broth was a bit too salty for my tastes, but otherwise the noodle soup was excellent. I much prefer the food here compared to the Vietnamese restaurant next door to it, which I thought was just okay.

With a mate who demand something ‘special’ but won’t eat anything deep-fried, salty, sweet, greasy or containing pork, believe me, your life gets much more complicated than you would ever wish for. After hours of discussion on what food CAN we both eat, we finally came into an agreement for Vietnamese. So there goes my research, and thanks to fellow Unilocalers, I found another jewel of Sydney the other day. This not-all-that-best-looking-from-outside restaurant is indeed easy to spot for many of those who knows what’s ‘George Street’ and has ability to read numbers but just in case you are all too new to Sydney, here is my tip. Get off at Central, ask anyone where George street is. That easy. Entering the restaurant, the first thing we noticed, was a whole lot crowd, so that was quite promising. As we sit down we ordered beef rice noodle soup($ 9 small) crispy chicken vermicelli($ 10) and rice paper roll with prawns($ 7). The waiter told us that dishes might take around 5minutes but the whole course was out and ready on our table within a good 3 minutes. I would say that’s faster than a Maccas. Digging into the food, I could NOT stop myself. Yes I did have a bit of trouble finding which sauce belongs where,(I poured the sauce for vermicelli on phở. Woops) but they all were a yum-o. For drinks, we each ordered ‘Mix nuts’ and ‘three beans’ drink($ 4 each), and I would say the Mix nuts was the only one I wouldn’t really order again from this place. It was too sweet for my taste :(BUT, three beans drink(the one with coconut cream) kept me deeply satisfied so all was good at the end. I would say this place isn’t the best looking in appearance wize, but for those after some good taste at some good price? This is your place

If you’ve ever had Vietnamese food chances are you’ve probably had beef phở. A tasty noodle soup dish with thin slices of beef, flat rice noodles and garnished with mint, fresh onion, bean shoots and the optional squeeze of chilli or hoisin sauce. Now if you’re like me and seem to get a craving for this dish every now and again or just feel like trying one, this is the best place to go in the city. You can get a regular sized serving for $ 9 or a large for $ 11. Alternatively if you’re not a fan of phở, then try the vermicelli noodles topped with spring rolls and dipping sauce. Another great find in China town.
