Quality of rice is poor. It’s soggy and tasteless, matched with dried, tough shredded pork. Perhaps I’ve tried too many ramen places and have been spoiled. The menya pork soup ramen is completely missing pork soup taste and it has a grainy texture. Again, it comes with super tough dried pork. Service was also poor. Very disappointed.

So I had to choose a place for my birthday dinner and of course, I chose ramen. This place was recommended to me by a friend and I decided to give it a go. It was a bit of a longer walk than I expected but it was absolutely worth the walk. This probably has to be my favorite ramen place in Sydney. Decently priced, they take card, the atmosphere is quaint and cozy, and the ramen is absolutely delicious! All ramen lovers, I commend you to sit down and eat at this lovely establishment. It was the perfect way to end my birthday :)

Menya is the place that I eat regularly when I get a ramen craving(which is now as it is now winter in Sydney), was the first«ramen bar» I ever went to in Sydney. When you enter Menya at the bottom of the Princes Centre you are always greeted with a enthusiastic«Irasshaimase!» by the chefs. Always. And that always gives me a renewed energy to battle for a place along its long communal dining table with other ramen slurping Menya groupies. I believe that Menya offers the best value ramen in Sydney — the Menya tonkotsu shoyu ramen — a mere $ 9.30 which is packed with a flavorable tonkotsu broth with all the ramen toppings you need(char siu pork, frim noodles, half a tamago egg, narutomaki, menma and two seaweed sheets). Cash only and communal tables, service is quick and in no time you are slurping firm noodles covered in a silky tonkatsu pork broth. Popular at peak eating times.

It was a rainy and windy night– also the perfect night for a bowl of hot, steaming ramen. Menya Noodle Bar was the perfect place to go. Cozy and ramen that fills the tummy :) I give this place a 3.6. Food: 4 — I had their takeaway katsu before. It was amazing and had great value! I really liked the crispy chicken and the rich sauce in the rice. Everything in the bowl came together nicely. — Ordered a Menya tonkotsu shoyu ramen(classic pork broth ramen). It was my first time trying a pork broth ramen. It was very interesting. To be honest, it was not exactly my kind of ramen and I wasn’t used to the taste. The broth was thicker than usual and it had a weird after taste. However, it is the most popular ramen in the store, so I guess this pork broth ramen is for some people and not for others. –Also ordered a takoyaki. It was great! Nice portion size and delicious ;) Drinks: n/a Service: 3 — Standard service. Very busy restaurant. Lots of things that are«serve yourself», such as getting your own water, ordering and paying at counter, etc. Atmosphere: 4 — Very fitting for a ramen restaurant. Family style wooden tables and extremely cozy. Friendly japanese greetings when you enter and exit the store. Great for groups! Misc: 3.5 — Standard location and price. It’s takeaway is very worth: D When I went it was crazy warm though… started sweating midway through my ramen. Not sure if it’s always like that.

This place has seriously one of the best ramen I’ve had outside of Japan and we just happened to stumble across it. The fatty pieces of chashu, delicious tonkotsu broth, thick and chewy noodles made a great bowl of ramen. We also ordered a side of corn and it was just $ 1.50 with enough to split into 2 – 3 bowls of ramen. I’d love to come back here if I could.

I don’t come here as often as I used to because since I reviewed Menya Noodle Bar Chinatown over 2 years ago a ton of other really good ramen shops opened up. Still a good place to get a bowl of ramen, but consistency isn’t always there.

Of the dozen ramen places we’ve been around the Haymarket area, this is by far our favorite. If you only get to go once, make sure to order the Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen, with tonkotsu broth. Then get ready for a porktacular bear-hug to your tongue in an embrace that you’ll never want to end.(The pickled mustard greens and turnips available on the table provide a tasty exit strategy if absolutely necessary.) Also consider the takoyaki if you’re looking for an appetizer/entrée. Make sure to have cash on you and keep bags to a minimum, as tables and benches are shared and sometimes crowded. The meal service is fast, with good portion sizes. Five stars every single time.

I was expecting a lot more from the tonkotsu broth but it was a fairly good bowl of ramen nonetheless. The broth is light and has a good pork flavour when you first get started but somehow as I eat, it wears off for me? I like my tonkotsu broth heavier and slightly saltier, like Ippudo’s. The noodles are not bad either, but I prefer thinner. Quick and friendly service and I dig the long communal tables. I give an extra star for the affordable prices.

When the time comes, and the medical world has the technology to perform such a thing, I’m going to get a surgeon to replace my blood with Menya’s Karami Dynamite Ramen. Tiger blood? Forget you Charlie Sheen, I’ll be an unstoppable force of spicy broth-powered dynamism, a collagen-infused colossus of spice and energy. I may even carry around a backpack of chilli pork mince to fling at my enemies, rendering them incapacitated with flavour. Behold Menya Man, scourge of the underworld!

I was deciding whether to give this 3 or 4 stars because I wanted to give it a 3.5 star rating. To be honest, I was a bit underwhelmed by the food. After reading the other reviews here and going to the other Menya in the city, I was expecting something amazing. My food was just OK with me. S’anyway, some friends and I decided to go here on a Friday night. We were a group of 7. This place doesn’t have«proper» tables — it has long tables where everyone kinda just sits beside each other. We were lucky but it wasn’t filled(yet), if we’d arrived 30 minutes later we wouldn’t have found any place to sit. It got a bit full later that night, literal elbow-rubbing ensued. I ordered gyoza and a karaage ramen, both of which came fairly quickly The gyoza was okay, but I would have preferred to have the skin a little bit crispier. The ramen broth was good, but the karaage itself was a bit of a letdown — it seemed to have been overcooked and was a bit tough. But it was okay. Maybe a 3.5 for the gyoza and a 3 for the ramen. But then one of the friends I was with said that she’d rate her food a 4.5, so I decided to round up to 4 stars. Maybe it was just my order. Will see next time.

Great tasting Ramen! One of the top 5 Ramens in Sydney, with a nice selection of other noodle dishes. Popular at lunch times though, so turn up early or expect a line of hungry uni students.

Menya Noodle Bar Chinatown is the original of the Menya establishments and I like to think it’s the best one out of all of them. Menya would rank in my Top 5 ramen joints in Sydney. I can’t say I’ve tried them all, but I have quite a few under my belt… rather in my belly. Their tonkotsu ramen is good, but definitely not the best in Sydney. The reason why Menya is so good is the variety of ramen to select from. When other establishments can barely get 5 different kinds of ramen together, Menya gives you 3 maybe 4 times that. My favorite by far is the Chili Beef Ramen and honestly it’s the one I get every time. Definitely has a good kick to it, but nothing that you’ll die over. Along with the different selections of toppings, they provide 3 – 4 different soup bases which then gives you even more combinations to choose from. This is a must go to place for any ramen lover!

If you’re a ramen addict(who isn’t?!) and you need a quick feed then this is a perfect spot to hit. This particular Menya establishment has been around for a long time, and as such, doesn’t suffer from the insane popularity(ie. waiting lines) that is currently being doted on it’s siblings Menya Mappen and Oiden. This is a good thing. You can get a seat, smash an amazing bowl of ramen, and get out the door within 20min(unless you can slurp you noodles faster than me!). Great hole in the wall joint that i’ll keep visiting, especially when I’m in a hurry.
