I used to walk past this small, unassuming indonesian restaurant all the time and never thought twice about going inside until one of my Indonesian friends brought me here. Walking in the first thing you’ll notice is the bain marie with some deep fried odds and ends, some images of the meals served plastered on the front window and the near empty sambal asli chilli sauces on each of the orange tables. There are mostly indonesian students dining at this restaurant which is a good sign. I didn’t know what to order when first coming here, so ordered what my friend had which was the bakmi komplit. Its a good tasting chicken noodle soup dish, which tastes even better with some asli chilli sauce on top. Just make sure to eye the room for a near full bottle before you sit down, so you can swap it for the empty one on your table. Café Joy mightn’t bring you all the happiness and joy in the world, but its a good place to grab a bite to eat and taste some proper indonesian food in the back streets of China town.
