I say it is a good place to have lunch with your mates in weekdays. Options are decent, don’t expect a high quality meal though.

Pretty poor. Pork belly was all fat. Pie was burnt and mashed potatoes cold. Staff couldn’t have cared.

I don’t want to write just a couple lines, but what can I say? It’s a pub, they serve standard pub food, prices are pretty normal. If you’ve been to one Brisbane pub you’ve been to them all. Anyhow, they do have a large bistro area where you go to the counter to order, but there’s also a smaller table service area. There’s a nice big beer garden out the back, and heaps of parking. It’s in a great location, so if you just want a few drinks you can do that here and you have a huge range of food options up Racecourse Road. I can’t rave about the place, but I also have nothing bad to say. I’d go back.

My husband calls this place the Hammo. It’s had a big refurb a couple of years ago and is trendy and standard price-wise. The meals are good and it’s a bit of a tradition to head here after the races, so it gets really busy on the evenings of big race days.

Hamilton Hotel is not a bad place for a meal, I have had a decent meal here from time to time. A few weekends back I went into Portside for dinner with a girl friend then we wandered down to the Hamilton hotel for a couple of drinks(I know what you are thinking and yes, I soon realised that this was a bit further than I thought on foot). It was however a nice night. We had an enjoyable few drinks before heading home. It was busy but not too over crowded and there was a broad range of ages and people. I have also been here once for a coffee on afternoon which was enjoyable too.

The Hammy, as the locals know it, is just down the road from Doomben Race Course. It’s a great place do meet up with some mates for a few drink specials before heading up to the ponies. However, if you’re not into the races, it’s a pub that’s casual enough for a weekend afternoon session of drinking with your friends. After a few largers you should then head out the back for a decent steak and chips. You wont be disappointed. Through out the Hammy, there is a consistent décor that runs through that gives the place a «please refrain from going too hard» feel. Perhaps it’s the rather large games section with its grey crowd of punters on the pokies, or the middle aged families dining in the restaurant. One thing is for certain, it doesn’t really invite the younger generations. It does try mind you. In the Hammy there’s a pretty decent sized live venue with a PA system that would be envied by some clubs in the valley. Over the past few months the Hammy has played host to USA Hip Hop and RnB acts Naughty by Nature and EVE. It’s a good start, but these efforts have proven fruitless. It’s up to the Hammy really, either loosen your rather stiff image, or just keep with the pokies.
