Good sushi and Japanese food, in a nice relaxed comfortable atmosphere.

I didn’t even realise there was a Ginga at Portside until recently, so thought it was worth a try. We walked in around 11:30am and it was completely empty. Until about 2 minutes after we sat down, and it got quite busy. The range of sushi here seems much the same as the Ginga at the Emporium. I quite like it, but find that the range they make and put on the train is lacking imagination. Can’t go wrong with the tuna and avocado roll, and the crab and avocado was really good too. I always find the chicken at Ginga quite dry, though. It doesn’t look it from the outside, but they do the hot dumplings and noodles as they do at Emporium. It was nice and clean and the staff were friendly. Oh, and be aware to get out you need to press the green button at the door.

What a pleasant surprise to find this Japanese Sushi/Restaurant at Portside. I’ve visited 3 times now and really enjoyed the freshly prepared food. There is the inevitable sushi but you can order prawn and scallop dumplings etc to arrive hot. There is a sit down menu as well that has quite a variety of food. The wait staff are pleasant and obliging and a never ending green tea costs $ 2.00(I remember the days when green tea was free)… This is a very pleasant environment and welcome at Portside. The cost for 2 people(one ravenous teenager who’d never eaten Japanese before) was $ 33 including a can of ubiquitous Coke.
