This restaurant used to make for a great night out. Sushi was really good and plentiful and staff friendly and welcoming. Not so any more. There seems to have been a change of management a few months ago, and since then it has been a downhill slide. A lot of the time the train is half empty dish sizes have decreased, there are less staff and so are too busy to be very friendly. On our last visit two of us went for our regular Friday treat, and we left with cash in pocket, that we were prepared to spend, and still hungry. There simply wasn’t enough variety, so we tired of watching this half empty train go round and round, each time with nothing enticing to eat. I’ll go one more time to see if it’s the same, and if it hasn’t improved, I’ll find another Friday night regular hangout.

I was not impressed. We ordered take-away, and about half of the things we wanted to order were unavailable(even though they were on the menu). There was a lot of confusion about take-away in general… At one point they suggested that we stand at the sushi counter and pick up our items as they arrive, one at a time. I asked them to assemble our order and we would come back and pick it up in 20 minutes, which we did. Even then I had to get some money back because it turns out even more of my order was«unavailable». I also thought the portions were very small for the price, so we came away with not much more than 2 people’s worth of sushi for more than $ 60.

If you visit this bustling sushi train anytime on a Friday, be prepared for a LONGLONGWAIT. Staff will give you a number based on time of arrival, and call you when space is available. Be prepared to wait in excess of an hour on Fridays in particular, as this place is so so popular. And before you ask, yes it’s totally worth the wait. Plates are reasonably priced, fresh and with excellent variety. Spice-lovers and meek as milk types will rejoice in the selections, as will adventurous traditional sushi-lovers and california roll fans. The minimal range of drinks are the only downside — I usually opt for a glass of cold water. The fruit juice on offer is so overly sugary I can’t finish a bottle, and I’m not a fan of soft-drinks. Make sure you pay special attention to the desserts when you visit. My pick of the bunch is the chocolate fondant. Take one from the train then wave down a staff member to warm it up for you. Gooey, chocolatey HEAVEN. Without being overly sweet or floury. Service is always fast and friendly at Sushi Train Greenslopes, I highly recommend it.

I visited the Sushi Train at Greenslopes yesterday and was really impressed. What was supposed to be an afternoon snack ended up serving as dinner when my companions and I couldn’t stop shovelling sushi into our mouths. The plates are super fresh, taste incredible, and there’s a huge range of varieties to choose from. The staff were friendly, efficient, and attentive, filling our water glasses a couple of times while we were there and calculating our bills quickly at the end of our meals. The restaurant is very clean, well organised, and the nifty little booths located around the train ensure comfort. I’ll definitely be going back.
