I have been coming to Oishi for several years and it was a brilliant place for sashimi, one of the best in Brisbane. I was very dissapointed to see a different menu today when I went to celebrate an occasion. Only scallop and salmon sashimi avaliable. The great sashimi was so good we made an effort to make the drive. What used to be city quality food is now reduced to good shopping centre sushi. All the regular dishes were there and what of them we had, tasted OK. The front of house were well groomed, polite and knowlegable. The kitchen, however, was chaotic and mis managed. One staff member stood at the pass in shorts the entire time we ate, chatting and laughing with the other chefs. The benchtops were cluttered and all their uniforms untidy. NB If your going to have an open kitchen andmake every dish by hand with no one wearing gloves, don’t stack the only hand wash sink full of dirty take away containers. This kind of stuff is important and shows lack of attention. I’ve been to Japan twice so I crave quality Japanese food. I hope Oishi gets thier shit together.

Best sushi in Brisbane! I can’t fault this place everything was excellent. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The service is speedy and very attentive. I reccomend the red dragon roll, garlic butter scallops and tori karage !

Oishi is one of those local favourites that people not familiar with the area would likely bypass in favour of the Nandos around the corner. After a tip of from a friend in the area, however, I decided to roll the dice — or should i say, rice! I was greeted by an older lady with friendly face the moment I walked in the door. And after trying manfully but ultimately unsuccessfully to get the damn thing fully closed I took in my surroundings. I absorbed the brown colour scheme, three smallish tables and… I had taken in my surroundings. This was clearly one of those places were all the action was saved for the kitchen, or so i hoped. I looked up to see a menu board that boasted well over fifty items, including typical Japanese favourites(teriyaki noodles, Japanese curry) to more out of the box fare(octopus balls, eel). I went with a dish that was accompanied by a yummy looking photo and while I’m not entirely sure what the ingredients were it sure was tasty. As I ate I noticed the staff preparing fresh sushi rolls behind the counter and opted to try the spicy beef. Perhaps not a traditional choice but one I can heartily recommend. A sentiment that goes for Oishi Sushi also.
