I’m erring toward a more positive review but our visit to Red Berry was a little chaotic. There were only a few people in the shop and the barista was behind the coffee machine with someone who was possibly new behind the counter. It took a while for him to hand our coffee order to the barista and he forgot our caramel slice until we asked for it. The coffee was great — my long black was smooth and had a nice crema on top. The clientele was a mix of cyclists, schoolgirls and harried workers looking for a caffeine fix. The shop is small and lacks a bit of ambience(the steel seats were as cold as ice!) but with a bit of lighting, a tidy up and a few small service improvements, Red Berry could be a morning go-to spot.

What a great little place! Their range of coffees is impressive considering the location and size. Judging by the amount of ‘bikie’ literature, art and inner tubes for sale, I’m guessing that it’s highly popular with our lycra-clad friends. Whilst I’m only drinking a latte — a bit more time to browse and I would’ve certainly chosen one of their own blends. Excellent friendly service and very reasonable prices to boot!

Their coffee is pricey(if you drink soy that is), but the guy knows his coffee. They are a «coffee concept» store geared toward cyclists(pun intended). I was there right before closing at 4pm so I managed to avoid the lycra. I love the posters on the walls that explain the characteristics of coffee(body, aroma, acidity, etc). Also the difference in beans grown in different areas of the globe. I got a coffee education while I was there and felt slightly ashamed to be a «milk coffee» drinker, because you don’t get the full taste of the coffee that way apparently… They have a different single origin bean on offer everyday, which was East Timor when I was there. They are able to do this because they roast all of their own beans. You can see the mini roaster in the corner of the room. They’ve got a wall of coffee related items for sale. A cold drip(which I’ve never tried but also makes places look like they know their stuff)… and a small amount of baked goods. Overall a good experience.

According to my Mum, you know a coffee shop is good in Adelaide when they attract the«bike-riding crowd.» I tend to disagree about that amount of skin tight lycra being around when I’m drinking my coffee but her theory has not yet proven her wrong when it comes to coffee. Red Berry roast their own blends of coffee and do it well. Unfortunately that is about all they can do in their shop because it is so tiny and they’ve tried to allow plenty of indoor and outdoor sitting room. This place is great for coffee and cake/sweet treats but is unable to do more than that due to the fact they do not have a toilet facility on site. The brews are good, the ice coffee is rich and creamy and it is a lovely quiet spot on a summer’s afternoon, as long as you can overt your eyes long enough from bright pink lycra.
