Namaste my fellow Unilocalers! (that’s hello in ‘Hindi’)
Unley grounds was filled with ghazal tunes, ‘tabla’ aka drums beats and Bhangra music as the Sikh Society hosted their first Punjabi Mela today.
Women, men and kids alike were decked in beautiful and colourful traditional costumes (Salwaar Kameez, Kurta’s and Jibah’s) complete with exotic Indian accessories. Just watching them made me a tad homesick as I reminsced my ancestral crib and family gatherings during our elaborate, long and fun family weddings.
The food market stalls was absolutely tempting, with offerings of Punjabi cuisine and South Indian food. The South Indian stall boasted tosai’s, idli’s and vadai’s…a common food we enjoy for breakfast or dinner in Malaysia, India and Singapore… fear not, my review will be complete with these delicious images of food. so start drooling now!
The beauty of living in Australia is definitely embracing a mixture and fusion of cultures and I’m pretty sure most of us are glad to be privy to various food, cultures, languages and people from various background.
I can’t wait to explore more international fairs and festivals in the next coming new year.
