Have eaten here a few times with mixed experiences. Stir fry and noodles are generous portions and generally tasty. Had the Masaman recently, the sauce was watery and the beef was so fatty I couldn’t chew it. Curry portion was about half what I received when ordering stir fry or noodle dishes.

I can’t believe this place doesn’t have 5 stars! Since moving to Glebe, I have been a regular at Thai on Wok. The restaurant is tiny. There must be about 5 – 6 tables scattered around the place, and the kitchen is probably a lot bigger than the service area. Probably not a good idea if you’re trying to impress on a first date(unless your date has a takeaway option). My assumption is that Thai on Wok relies mostly on its takeaway orders, because it is listed with all the home delivery services like eatnow, menulog, etc. I have only ever had a sit down dinner there ONCE, and it was pretty chaotic. The kitchen is open style, so you can see the chefs preparing your food. This also means you can hear EVERYTHING, including the instructions that are being barked, the sizzling noises, and the banging of cultery. The food is f***ing DELICIOUS. My staples include the vegetarian pad thai(with the extra tofu), chilli tofu with rice, and tom yum prawn soup. The fried rice is EXCELLENT, as is the green curry, red curry, and pretty much most things on the menu. I was only ever let down by one item, and that was the satay. Disclaimer: I am Southeast Asian and have unreasonably high expectations of my satay. If you’re a local to the Glebe area, I recommend giving them a call and placing your order over the phone. They will have it ready in 10−15mins, and you can go down and pick it up! Wayy faster than going through menulog or any of the other services. Also, be sure to hit the ATM before you pick up your order — it’s cash only.

Portions are huge here, normally I end up having to take most of my food home. Overall a typical Thai place in Sydney seems like every time I come here there isn’t much of a crowd, so seating shouldn’t be an issue. Grab your own cup of water in the front and make sure to check out their lunch prices :)

Thai on Wok is your standard cheap-and-cheerful Thai joint. Food is above-average standard, good for the price and comes out lightning fast. I like to eat in here if I can snag a table because: 1) They have hoisin sauce for your dipping pleasure, which I’m fairly sure is Japanese. But who cares? The more dipping sauces the better! 2) Thai on Wok has a dual action ice and water machine to quench your thirst after scoffing down all that yummy Thai food! Set the dial to «ice and water» and stick your cup underneath for a healthy dose of chilled water with a dang good ice-to-water ratio! Sometimes it’s the little things in life…

Its cheap and cheerful here on Glebe Point Road. Order at the counter and sit down at plastic tables and chairs in a bustling environment. Food is quick, fresh and delicious. Great for a quick, no fuss dinner. Also love the self serve ice/water machine!

The best Thai food in the area by far. Thai On Wok use really fresh ingredients and the food is always lovely, with generous serving sizes. The service is always friendly and fast and everything is very well priced($ 11 – 12 for curries and stir fries). Thai on Wok is a small unassuming venue, halfway up Glebe Point Road and it’s always jam packed full of people. If you can’t nab a table, squeeze through the crowd to the counter and order a take-away, the park opposite makes for a nice spot to sit and enjoy your meal. The turn around here is pretty fast though, so you won’t have to wait long for a seat. If you choose to wait and feel like a pre-meal beverage — 2 doors up the street is the Different Drummer cocktail bar, and a few stores down on the Bridge Road is the AB Hotel. My picks are for starters the locally renowned Satay Chicken sticks(mmm!), and the Chilli and Coconut Prawns. For mains, my picks are the the Chicken and Cashew Nut stir fry, Beef Massaman(with huge, tender chunks of Beef), Tom Kha, Panang Curry, Chicken Satay, or the Chicken and Lemongrass stir fry.

When I first discovered Thai cuisine all those years ago, I used to thoroughly enjoy Thai on Wok. Recently those long ago memories began to taunt me, pulling me in and encouraging me to give Thai on Wok another go. But now, I will never eat there again. The spring rolls were soggy. The meat in the beef cashew nut was such poor quality and the flavours were weak and watery. The chicken pad Thai was a safer choice and tasted a bit better but was still nothing to write home about. None of the flavours had been developed and everything was rather bland. This is dumbed down Australian Thai at its best. Thankfully the prices weren’t too extravagant so I didn’t feel too bad throwing it in the bin. Very disappointing!

This Thai restaurant in Glebe is no frills and makes no apologies for it. If you were to catch it too early, before the rush of Glebe’s hungry residents have made their way over, Thai On Wok looks like a just another potentially crappy, nothing take-away store taking up residence on Glebe Point Road. Their signage is simple and their settings are bland. And yet, the fact that this shop is continuously busy, despite its lack of frills, is a testament to the quality of its food. The stark white shop doesn’t seem like the ideal place for a night out to dinner, but Thai On Wok’s steadily occupied handful of white tables suggests otherwise. Customers awaiting their take-aways linger outside the shop with a soft drink from Thai On Woks self-service fridge as the sizeable team of chefs whip up their Panang curries, Pad Thais and Basil and Chilli stir fry. Take-away would be my choice here, if only to take my food across the road to Foley park. The menu hosts your typical Thai fare at budget prices and whilst I wouldn’t hunt it down, it’s easily the best spot for Thai food in Glebe.

I don’t know what made me stray from my usual pad thai at Tom Yum Tum Gang(since it’s closer to my house), but this time I went to another one of the million Thai restaurants on Glebe Point Rd: Thai On Wok. Interestingly, it has a reputation for one of the best Thai food in the city. It’s a small place with no decoration, a couple of tables, and an open kitchen. We got our food within ten minutes, steaming and fresh from the Wok. My friend and I shared a chicken pad thai and a chicken and eggplant stir-fry, with a side of rice. The dish was sumptuous; the thick cuts of eggplant were cooked to perfection, and the flavor of the sauce was great. The chicken in both dishes was good, but it kind of tasted like ham(that’s the best way I can describe the taste). The pad thai was good, but there’s no comparison to the quality and balance of flavors in Tom Yum Tum Gang. I do however, recommend the chicken and eggplant stir-fry, which was really excellent.

It is a very lucky coincidence that Thai on Wok happens to be spitting distance from my house. If it were blocks, I believe I would still make the trek(and please note that I am relatively lazy). I am a habitual orderer by nature, so I’ve only ever tried two things. Both were decent, and a bargain at that! Their menu boasts dozens of stir fries and curries; portion size is good, and prices are low. One of my favorite items is the tom yum soup with extra mixed veggies. The broth is infused with lime and lemongrass and the tofu is lightly fried and spongy. Be prepared that not everything in your bowl will be edible, though. You might want to keep a side dish nearby to spit hard chucks of ginger and lemongrass shoots into(how ladylike, right?). If you’re after something more substantial, go for the fresh basil chicken /mixed vegetables and rice which will easily feed two(if you get an entrée) for $ 11.

If you live in and around Glebe, Thai on wok is the best place for Thai. Fresh, crisp and hot Thai food… I have been going there for years and it has never ever let me down. It’s the sort of place you just fall back on when you can’t be bothered to try anything new. Always buzzing with activity this place is never empty. You can take away or use the few tables that they have. Nothing fancy about the décor. The prices are very affordable, the quality and taste is impeccable. The servings are decent enough. Sometimes after eating at Thai on Wok — I am just amazed how they can offer such delicious and quality food at that price and still manage to be in business. But they do and have been for many years. Thai on wok is just honest Thai food. Love the Pad Thai and the Satay Chicken sticks. I can easily say the food here could beat food from any top Thai restaurants in Sydney. Give it a shot if you haven’t till now !
