This certainly isn’t the best pub in Gawler but it is far from being the worst. It is quite large, and has two beer gardens, one adjacent the restaurant and one adjacent the front bar(which opens around 3:00 pm), as well as tables out the front. Like may of the suburban pubs that I have encountered, this one also has pokie machines and a restaurant, though the food is somewhat better than your average pub grub — and they also have stonegrill, where you cook your meat on a ridiculously hot paving stone(which means don’t touch it). Oh, and one of the beer gardens is also non-smoking, or at least a large part of it, which means you can eat outside without having to put up with cigarette smoke.

We had a pleasant experience with a few down points. Firstly we had booked so didn’t expect to have to wait in line for 10 minutes to be seated(waiting behind people who were ordering meals), then when it came time to order we had to wait 15 mins again as service was quite slow. Our food didn’t take too long to come. I just had plain boring wedges(not hard to get right) but sadly the sweet chilli sauce and the sour cream were together in the pot which I can’t stand. The wedges on their own were undercooked and tasted gritty. The schnitzel my partner had was tender and moist and the chips were well cooked. My dad’s vegetarian pizza looked amazing and was devoured. I loved my big generous cocktail and the large list to choose from. Dessert was quickly and pleasantly served to the table. All in all a pleasant experience with a few downfalls, we would dine here again but we wouldn’t order the wedges!

I attend the kingsford most Wednesdays for their weekly trivia night. It is a great place to have a beer and recent renovations to the bistro/front bar have really modernised this part of the hotel. There is a reasonably large TAB and pokie area but it is nice that it is kept separate from the dining and social areas. Saturday nights there’s karaōke in the TAB area and you’ll see some«interesting» performances on and off the stage. Food wise the kingsford isn’t fantastic… Although there are some highlights. The pizza is probably the best in Gawler and the Oysters Rockefeller(topped with spinach and Parmesan cheese) are really tasty. All in all the Kingsford is a good quiet pub with a good vibe. It’s not the type of place you’ll spend every Saturday night but it’s a nice place to go for a weeknight meal.
